I found out something about my fiance and her family and I don't know what to do...

They do demonstrate that we did make it to the moon, but they don't prove that the first mission and landing occurred when they claimed it did ;)

hehe
/puts foil hat back on

Of course they weren't faked. Although if Neil Armstrong was supposedly the first Man on the Moon, then who the hell was filming him descending the LM's ladder? *

*I jest of course.

The idea whether true or false is at least very plausible. It's not like she believes in mediums, crystal skulls or astrology :)

I'd say there is nothing to get upset about

Next you will be telling us she has 62 minute phonecalls with her mum, when you get calls <60mins for free.;)

It always shocks me when otherwise intelligent people hold questionable views. The amount of people who believe in say a homoeopathy, acupuncture, talking to spirits, ghosts, crystal healing, magic healing, prayer, big-foot/nessy or any other laughable belief is beyond me.

The worst is the 'ghost story' that loads of people have, in all cases they seem to think hearing or seeing something they can't explain - means they can explain it as ghosts.... urrgghhh.....

This. There are such things as conspiracies, as history as shown us. It's not an all or nothing subject. There are some I find interesting and some I think are ridiculous beyond words. While I don't buy into the moon landing conspiracy, I also wouldn't stick it in the "loony bin" category either. Now, if you said she believed in "chemtrails".....then I would advise running for the hills :)

I had this discussion with someone at the pub once, I literally went on my phone and got the pictures China took of the moon landing spot showing the flag and the Moon buggy still there

Can I see those? Tried googling but couldn't find exactly what you mentioned.

yup

someone I worked with posted a picture of a 'ghost' they'd seen in their flat... another colleague - otherwise fairly sharp/intelligent guy then commented on it talking about recording ghost EVPs etc..

one analyst in another team thought the ghost thing was ridiculous but IIRC was convinced 9/11 was an inside job a few years ago

people are very inconsistent with their skepticism

There's nothing wrong with that. As long as you actually take the time and trouble to look into things and form your own opinion, it's better than just being a vacuous reality TV watcher.....of which there are millions.

Unfortunately, there are also people (a lot of them on OCUK apparently) who just have a blanket approach to any "alternative" theories. Doesn't matter that the subjects can vary wildly (9/11 and ghost, for example...), if you entertain any of it you must be a conspiracy theorist nutjob. It's kinda depressing.

Not sure if China took them, but this site has a couple of images of the landing site: http://www.historyrundown.com/top-5-reasons-the-moon-landing-was-not-a-hoax/

They also make a good point at the end of the article, stating that Russia (who will have spied on the mission) found no cause to believe it was fake. And you don't need to be a history nerd to know that relations between Russia (the Soviet Union anyway) and the U.S. at that time were less than rosy.

it is vacuous reality TV watchers that tend to believe in these things - Ghost Hunters was a popular enough show...
