Is BT Broadband Any Good?

I went to BT and it was like breath of fresh air. Headline figures were not as good, but the quality of the connection, the ability to browse and stream were in another league. But I didn't like the fact most routing was done via Sheffield and I ended up with over 20ms ping. When I moved house I went with Plusnet, albeit I couldn't get over 40mbps so ended up with 40/10. Plusnet were brilliant to be fair, no Sheffield routing and nice and cheap. I got drunk one weekend and decided I wanted 152mbps with Virgin, so I signed up. New house wasn't in a congested area, how bad could it be I thought? They're a bunch of cretins. Youtube, streaming and general browsing was worse than 40/10 Plusnet. I've since moved so I managed to cancel, I can't get VM where I live now so I'm on Sky Fibre Pro now due to the friends and family deal. Apart from the absurd cost, I'm more than happy with Sky's network. Sub 8ms ping, no slow down, streaming, Youtube etc is flawless.

My comments in another thread. When I brought up the routing issues it fell on deaf ears. They've also had some major issues this year due to slow downs and pages not loading which haven't affected rival companies.

They finally sorted the routing via Sheffield for me... finally... a couple of months back.

BT is good when they are good but if you have a problem (which is rare) very bad - for anything other than the most trivial of issues you will likely have to go to the CEO to get it resolved :( which is just silly but you probably won't run into any issues.

What have your experiences of BT Broadband been like, good or bad? Please share.
My friend has it FTTC and gets a minimum of 70Mbps at all times.
I have normal "Broadband", but only get 0.5Mbps.

Can be a bit of a mess to get set up and working, but once it's running it's pretty darn great. Consistent rates, speeds, etc, service is good and the only problems that I've had are very occasional losses of service, always due to an issue at the exchange.

I'm told that the exchange is now fibre-enabled (which it has been for several years) and that they are now taking orders in my area... but only two of their four databases agree and so I can have it, but I can't, but I can, but I can't, all while telling me that Superfast Fibre Internet is coming soon to my area... in roughly nine months... which was about two years ago...

Living a massive 15-minute walk away from my exchange and about 4 minutes from several other areas that already do have Superfast, the lack of anthing fast is killing me and I'd have told BT to go stuff themselves long ago... except that no other company operates out this far.

So yeah - Some good, some bad, mostly dependent on where you live.

Wasn't aware of the Sheffield thing being fixed, should have been done ages age, it was 2011 or 2012 when I was with them!

Dunno if its fixed for everyone that was affected by it - but they finally fixed it for me around 2-3 months ago. First world problems and all but it was really annoying being routed a 300 mile round trip and exposed to problems country wide for no good reason.

Hi Guys

What have your experiences of BT Broadband been like, good or bad? Please share.

Thanks

They are good, when I first joined them from Sky I had a few problems as my internet connection kept going off. They sent an engineer to sort the problem out and put me a new master socket in free of charge.

I have recently switched to Plusnet as their prices are cheaper for the same thing (Plusnet are owned by BT) I am saving £10 per month on 76Mb fibre, £1 per month on line rental, £1.50 a month on anytime calls and £3 per month on caller display.
