Can't get blood test results from GP

For every braindead numpty who proclaims they are vegan, I eat another chunk of cow. What a wonderful creature. :)

I lost 4 stone, went from a 40" waist to a 34 and had massively improved blood test results by eating mainly meat, eggs and dairy! Keto diet ftw, humans didn't evolve to eat twigs and dust.

To be fair, nothing wrong with taking b12 or iron as a vegan, I was taking those while I was eating meat as part of my lifting diet (along with fibre which I no longer need) & still do now I don't. Wanting to know or not if your diet is having a negative impact is a good thing to find out for sure.

While it may be unnecessary if the doctors has given a green light I can understand the need, what having fat unhealthy meat eaters who couldn't lift their own bodyweight attempt to preach dietary advice can make you want it in writing. The last person who asked where I got my protein I couldn't help but ask where he gets his saturated fat from. :D:D

Agreed for the most part but the difference is that Nate spouts utter drivel and argues with people that actually known a lot about nutrition. He also claims that his diet is the best in the world and eating meat is the cause of all our ills. He's fairly famous in the Sports Arena forum and Gym Rats thread.

Back on point - all GP's use some electronic system to store records. Ask for access to it if available online. Most use SystemOne (It's the standard NHS one I believe) which is definitely available online.

As a result I get my blood results before the doctor does lol ;)

PS - This thread has reminded me, need to give more blood for more checks darn it.

What does it all mean? Meh!

So that's 47 whole mangoes need per day to get your RDA of iron from eating just mangoes (as you suggested doing).

If you ate 47 whole mangoes per day, you'd be eating about 6345 calories per day. That's rather a lot too much for almost everyone.

You'd also be eating around 1438g of sugar per day. Almost one and a half kilos of sugar. Every day. That's far too much for anyone.

Don't get him started, apparently calories from fruit won't make you fat if eaten in isolation that's why he eats eleventybillion bananas a day and still looks malnourished.

Lol serious? Calories are calories it doesn't matter where they are from!

I don't have a provlem with people being vegan but I do have a problem with them thinking they know better than everyone else and that they are somehow superior.

I'm not convinced he eats all of them

It's actually more complicated than that. Your body processes calories differently depending on the combinations of food you're ingesting together.

For example sugars with fibre, and sugars without fibre, how your body processes this can have an effect on weight gain.

I recently had a skin biopsy done to get a lump checked, the doc said they would only contact me if something was wrong... That was a long few weeks before I realised I wasn't getting a letter.

With something like that you'd want some form of communication either way surely!? As you said it's a long old wait until you just hope it was clear.

This seems the case with almost every test nowadays, they will only contact you if something is wrong. Seems a bit silly letting people live with anxiety for months on end when they could just be sent a simple letter saying everything is clear.

There's an interesting BBC Horizon episode on iplayer at the moment about whether tests are actually good for you. Woman on there who doesn't believe in screening as it harms more people than it saves.

Complete non event today. The last guy must have been a complete ******* amateur. Had to have a chest X Ray as well for some odd reason. Oh well.

I'll have you know my superiority has nothing to do with my veganism. :p

It's not that hard to understand blood test results, they are just words on a piece of paper with numeric values

...

I see no harm and the urea being low is a good thing.

Which tells me a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and why you don't know your arse from your elbow in this regard.

Someone in this thread said calcium is a bigger problem on a vegan diet but there has never being a recorded instance of calcium deficiency in humans in history.

And that just confirms it. There are multiple cases - hell I've seen loads.

The concerns about calcium levels in vegan diets have nothing to do with calcium. Just a heads up - the calcium in a U+E tells you bugger all useful about one's calcium levels - it tells you the total calcium and where that calcium is largely bound is the significant part in potentially protein deficit diets. Once again showing the ignorance of people about such things where they pretend something isn't medical when it potentially is.

Everytime I meet a vegan they always look like a saying your nan would say "You need a few good meals" :p

Also the quote "Drinking milk for fear of not getting enough calcium"

You FEAR this? Do you have any other irrational fears? Do you also have Anatidaephobia? :p

Whilst I find it interesting on how you've changed your lifestyle etc I find it more interesting how the want for a 'healthy diet' has dictated your life to change it so much.

What states whether or not you're healthy? Some numbers on a bit of paper?

I know people who eat like champs, keep themselves physically fit, one in particular who is the healthiest person I know (the sexy Freefaller from this very forum) and he could out eat me even when I'm having a fatty day :D - and I've shared many a curry and beer with him, he's insanely healthy.

To me it's all about balance. Not maintaining 'perfection' - whatever it is.

I used to work with a vegan who was in very good shape. I didn't know he was a vegan for over a year. I think there may well be an inverse correlation between how preachy a vegan is and how much they actually know about nutrition. This guy has a sports science degree and various other formal training in exercise, nutrition and suchlike. Veganism is fine for people who have the relevant knowledge and who implement it. Real knowledge, not (for example) the "knowledge" that every fruit is by itself a perfectly balanced diet.

I must admit, I quite liked the philosophy of one guy I met a while ago...

"I won't eat anything with a brain".

Fair enough. Makes perfect sense to me if you want to take that stance.

I had my bloods done a few months ago as part of my yearly healthcheck and they are at least as good if not better than Nate's. And I'm a meat eater (though I eat healthily and exercise a lot), so I don't know what that says about the vegan lifestyle, but it does certainly prove that you can be healthy and eat meat as well.

Can we see pictures of both Freefaller and Nate?

For science, clearly.

Come on, chaps :)
