Hi folks,

Just dropped my nexus 5 at work and broken the bottom corner of the screen, wont turn on - vibrated a lot and got too hot to touch so I'm guessing it's FUBAR'ed and the battery's had it from the drop too.

Excess on my home insurance is £250 I think, so no point doing that.

Contract renews in November, so do I buy a cheapo phone to last me through? If so, which is recommended?

Or, buy a Z3 or similar for now and go sim-only come Nov?
 
2nd Gen Moto E is probably the best option for a cheapo phone @ £109, any cheaper and the spec will wind you up, any more and you want to think about a phone to keep and go sim-only.

Sony Xperia E4 might also be a contender @ £99
 
It's worth checking to see if your bank account offers any sort of cover for mobile phones as a) your excess would likely be a lot lower and b) it won't have a knock-on effect on your insurance premiums!

Most accounts where you pay a monthly fee include this cover in my experience!
 
If you're going to get a more expensive phone like the Z3 later regardless, you might as well just get it now and go to a sim-only contract when you can. Buying a cheap phone now is just a waste of money unless you really can't afford the Z3 except on contract.

Unlucky.. I dropped my Nexus 5 a week ago whilst crossing the road. Front glass is all smashed but it still works! Waiting for the Nexus 5 (2015) and hoping my current Nexus survives until then.
 
Thanks guys, problem is my current contract won't end until early November, so I'm stuck paying that until then.

Yep, just unlucky this time - i've dropped it a few times before with nought but a scratch. This time's a bingo though.

Might just stump up the Cash for a Oneplus One or 2 if I can get the invite and just go sim-only when my current one ends.
