290x vapor-x fan troubles

Hey there,

I recently ordered my 290x vapor-x and got it today. I was excited as you see i've been on a I5 2500k graphics for over 6 months...

Anyhow, seemed everything was fine, next to no coil whine, no driver issues, etc.. however after a couple of hours of gaming. I started to notice a deep/loud humming noise. I thought it was odd hearing this at idle fan speed (20 percent)

Long story short.. i checked my GPU and what do you know it is the middle fan, as soon as i touch it or stop it completely. The noise is completely gone.

I guess my question is.. should i save myself the stress and just return it.. and if so... what graphics card would you suggest? (1080p, 60hz gaming for Witcher 3/MGS, SC2 and a load of other games)

Yep its an RMA. don't try to fix it just get it sent back. Just get another back. I've had one and there's no hum on the fan and I'm a fussy F'
 
Indeed, i had the 290 version before hand and never had this issue. It was extremely quiet... in idle and load, This was about a year back...

Yeah, indeed i can return it but only for a refund due to lack of stock.. shame as i love the look of the card and the temps and goes with the blue theme of the rig :(

I take it this was from a well-known etailer starting with "A"? Mine is due to arrive tomorrow. You already asked them about replacing it and they said no stock?

Indeed, very well known starting with an A... The only options i had was a partial refund of £20 and keep the product or a return with a full refund. I ended up going with the full refund.. :)

I did; not a raging success so far! :( I started a new thread on this but basically, I'm getting black screens etc. The system has been working well so far with a 390X card so I'm afraid I'm gonna have to follow in your footsteps to the RMA-land. :o

I am sorry to hear that mate!. I've never had the black screen issue, either with the previous 290 vapor or this.. well.. my first card.. was kinda DOA! and this card well.. perfect apart from that middle fan.. :O

Indeed.. this card is by far the best looking i've seen out on the market and matches my blue theme rig. It's generally super quiet and overclocks pretty well too.. damn shame :(

What 390x did you get?. I guess i'll have to look at a 390.. and by the looks of it.. the MSI one looks to be the best.. shame it's ugly >.<
