Long and short of it .. Iv cooked ANOTHER set of OE brakes in under a year (Partially to do with remap). Now im not an idiot and can drive but i do drive like im always on a track, with this in mind iv been recommended to move to ebc vented discs and green/yellowstuff pads on front and back.

The car is an Astra Mk5 1.7cdti, 5 stud 280mm discs
Can anyone recommend anything else or better for a similar price?
Im gona be spending about 300 or so here so want best stop for my money

Change your attitude then, nobody likes a dangerous driver. Those two things are mutually exclusive you know.

Im not dangerous but im not one to hang around either. Ill go from 0 to speed limit abit quicker than others and brake into corners etc but being dangerous is far from it. Never had any trouble from law with my driving and iv been regularly seen driving like it

And to driving it like that.. Why not? Iv had it since i turned 19, im now 22 and the car isnt worth anything anymore to even roll into a dealers an px against a newer motor. Ill just run it until it dies but i won't skimp on its safety! I dont want to get hurt and id hate to hurt anyone else. Hence me asking a serious question about brakes and not just going.. eh stuff it put more oem's on it

Just get a decent set of pads, Mintex 1144, Ferodo DS2500, Pagid RS4-2 etc...etc...

Drilled/grooved brake discs will make next to no difference unless yours are already knackered, the high temperature braking performance comes from the pad material.

Buy a VXR kit off a forum?

I've got the 308mm discs on mine which is basically your caliper + the bigger slider/mount/bracket. Fit better pads and see how it goes.

The old MK4 gsi had 308s too I believe.

I'm sorry that's nonsense - if you're driving everywhere like "you're on a track" then you're not driving safely.. There's a time and a place for that. And I doubt you're getting to the speed limit faster than most with that engine lol

VXR kit looks like a good option, once you've fitted them actually take the car on a track, the correct place to drive like you're on a track.

1.7 diesel + Astra + Driving it like on a track = chavmobile

no wonder you go through brakes, its a vauxhall they are probably made of plastic. You must really enjoy black smoke by flooring it all the time.

VXR kit is the more expensive option due to needing calipers, carriers and 328mm discs.

The 308 upgrade would purely be the carrier and discs as it's the same caliper. I have this on the 1.6 turbo and it comes on the 1.9 cdti I believe too.

You must be heavy as hell on them as I've did 26k or so on my fronts and I don't hang about on the 100 mile b road blast I have to do regularly. I tend to drive more smoothly, lifting off between two corners to drop speed or using hills to slow the car up a bit.

I can picture it now, black smoke pluming from the back as the mighty astra slowly gets up to 30mph over the limit, no matter the limit - then smoking from the brakes, abs workijg overtime as it is forced to wait till the last possible moment to hammer on the anchors at any given corner/roundabout/set of lights.

If you want to drive like a plank learn to do it discreetly (hint, if you're destroying brakes you aren't).

To be slightly more constructive ebc green pads are rubbish, yellow decent but need warmed up. Something like black diamond predators are a fair compromise between working from.cold and having a bit more bite than most OEM pads.

Changing the discs is a waste of time on that car imo, unless the existing ones are actually needing swapped out

"Maxxis" or "goodride" tyres leaving the worlds smallest 11s away from the lights too I'd imagine
