Hi there

Im about to buy these speakers but have a question or two.

Where do people place their subwoofer for optimal listening, and does it matter? I have some space on top and below my desk.

Secondly does the quality of the Aux 1 (3.5mm to 3.5mm jack) affect anything? It affects my headphones to pc (Philips Fidelio X1) so would I need to purchase a better cable?

Would I get better sound when switching to Headphones by plugging headphones into the digital control unit or would I get better quality direct into my sound card as normal, the Asus Xonar STX

thanks

I don't know about the cable, but the sub definitely want to go on the floor. You will also get better audio by plugging your headphone straight into your soundcard. I have tried both and it is better to go direct.

Right cheers is it ok to put things on top of the sub eg books notepad files etc to save space or does it distort the sound?

You can put things on top of a sub, obviously if the object you put on it can vibrate/rattle then you will get some noise as they vibrate but it will not damage the sub. Books and such shouldn't be an issue, my sub has had headphones, dvds, books/paperwork and even a sound desk on top of it with no ill effects.

What's all the madness about the corsair not being the best in league?
Apparantly people are telling me I should have for some crummy Logitech z603 or klipsch pro media? Have I made a mistake?

Also what cables should I buy for it

Opinions vary.

The Klipsch ProMedia are very good though, but I thought they weren't available in the UK anymore.

Something like this is perfectly fine. Just choose which length you want. Spending more on so called better cable isn't going to change much really, just the feel and appearance, etc.

Shouldn't do. Should be very little difference between that and RCA.

I don't understand though when you say it affects your headphones. In what way?

Do you have connected directly to the Essence STX?

My headphones had less noise with the better cables, also the cheap cables kept losing sound in one ear as the cabled moved around frequently. Wont happen on speaker setup but good to know dont have to fork out on speaker cables.

Quite frankly I have no idea what half the connectors on my STX do, would you mind briefly explaining what some of them are used for e.g Line in

and also if in the future would I be able to get a tv for my bedroom and plug it into the sp2500?

Red and white RCA connections are left and right stereo for connecting speakers. The two larger 6.35mm TRS connections are for headphones and microphone. The grey RCA is digital output for coaxial or optical.

So you changed the cable that connects to your X1 headphones, and got less noise?

Somewhat surprised by that. Seems odd that you were getting noise with the original cable. If you're getting noise from the Essence, then the problem lies there. Could be picking up interference from your GPU or possibly a ground loop.

Left pair in red/white are your normal line out as RCA which go to an amp or powered speakers. Next is the headphone output as a 1/4" jack. Next is line in/mic in as 1/4" jack. Last is spdif out (digital) as both RCA and mini-toslink for coaxial or optical. This can be used for surround via dolby digital live provided you have a decoder at the other end.
