I am looking at some of the more expensive x99 ones like the Asus Deluxe
and I see what looks like 5 graphics card slots but only one little expansion thing for sound card, wireless cards, some SSDs etc, what about people that already have sound card that they want to use ? for E-ATX size motherboards I expected to see a bit more expansion slots

Put sound cards etc into the long slots, as long as you read the info correctly on how the board shares PCI lanes between slots you can do that and not affect GFX card performance.

Nope, 1X/4X cards can go into 16X slots or ones that are 16X long (actual length) but only wired to 4X/8X etc.

I agree with this it's about time they stopped putting a pci-e x1 slot above the primary gpu slot it's useless there

My old board had an X1 slot above my primary X16 slot. I actually used it for my sound card (SBZ) so it was sort of useful to get it up and out of the way :) Not too bothered that my new board doesn't have that though as I just put it low down instead.

yes but it's more common to have board heatsinks blocking the use of a card there haven't been able to get my dx in that slot on my last 3 boards

I found the top most x1 slot on an Asus p8 z77 v pro to be ideal fir a sound card. I was running sli so other available slots weren't much use. Current board wouldn't fit the card so had to sell it as I carried the gpu's over. Moving to X99 soon so should have better choice for add in cards.
