Both are similar in price, and within what I am looking to spend. I am currently using a Rog Swift, but the TN panel is really starting to annoy me when I compare it to the IPS monitor I use at work.

I am going to be playing games on it, though not shooters, and so far I have not been able to find many reviews which talk about gaming on these, other than "it looks great in 4K".

I am leaning toward the Asus, but I used to have a Dell U2711 and loved it. I have also seen info that the scaling down to 1920x1080p (for those titles that refuse to run in higher resolutions) is better on the Dell.

Going to run this on a 5820k + 2x980ti so the lack of gsync will hopefully not be too traumatic.

If you could increase the extra cash would you go for a 32in screen like the Benq they keep coming up on offer for 599.00.

BenQ BL3201PT 32" 4k 60Hz

My plan was to keep it low, and upgrade to one with more features in a year or so (when ex. gsync and higher update frequencies for 4k screens start to come), so I think that one is a bit too pricey.

Well I can help with some hands on facts. Well facts based on my opinion. The Asus PB287Q (not what you listed) is a good monitor. HAving seen one in the flesh a while back at a mates. OSD is a bit fuzzy but who cares. The monitor was at that time my No 1. The Dell on the other hand had the worst screen lag I have ever seen. I felt sea sick. It was like wading through Vaseline - which I haven't done by the way. The Dell looks great. The build was good etc. Static images were really good. I was entirely happy with 1080p scaled on either monitor but the Dell to me was a no go.

Anyway I went to see an Iiyama B2888UHSU-B1. Currently reviewd by some as the best cheap 4k. It does not have the ultimate BQ of the Dell but scaled very well and to my eyes was easily the best for movement, bettering some 1080p I had seen on my travels. So anyway I bought one.

Ah, that is very good to know about the lag on the Dell. Makes sense as it is a monitor they seem to be aiming at "office work".

And both the Asus and the liyama you mentioned are TN panels, so thats a no-go for this purchase.

The Asus PB279Q looks more and more like the better choice for me (vs the Dell anyways).

Incidentally the P2415Q fairly low input lag, so it isn't really about the product positioning. Not quite as low as the PB279Q which is about as good as I've seen on a '4K' monitor in that regard though.
