Okay, so i have stumbled into a strange issue.

Our phone line comes off of a pole --> Bracket on neighbours wall --> My house. This is due to the length of the cable, so need bracing halfway.

The neighbours are having an extension and the cable is likely to have to move. Who's responsible for this?

You need to speak to whoever you pay for your phone line. They'll have to move it, not the builders who are doing the extension.

Problem with that is, OpenReach will come out and probably slap me with a £120 bill for it, even though it's not because of me.

I assume it would be OpenReach, it's their infrastructure and property. But should it be down to me, or the guy that's having the extension?

BT/Openreach presumably would have put the original cable up, and so they will be the people who need to move it.

Any charges realistically should be paid by the neighbour, as it is their "fault" the cable will need to be moved.

You need to contact Openreach directly.

If you want telephone poles, cables, jointing chambers or other Openreach equipment on or near land you own relocated or removed please contact the Openreach External Network Relocation Team or call 0800 023 2023 and select Option 3.

I would say that you should not worry yourself over this. Let the neighbour deal with it as and when the issue arises.

As someone who is currently building over drains which serve nearly properties, and making and absorbing all of the costs of keeping their service uninterrupted, i would have thought that it would go without saying that the neighbour should do the same for you.

This is what your neighbour needs to do - not you.

Phone cable is on their property not yours, so therefore their issue (even though it is your line)

Cheers all :)

The neighbour is cool ,we're on good terms. I'll just relay this to him and get him to call:

There is a bit of a special set of circumstances when it comes to BT's equipment - which hopefully your neighbour is aware of if they come to doing anything involving the line.
