Anyone who possibly works in the health field, do you know the name of the packing doctors/nurses put in wounds to make them heal from inside out?

Also do they soak them in anything?

Would be grateful for any info.

cheers

Coat some rope in Mustard and shove it in there.

No Medical Threads unless you're a Moderators buddy or something. You know the Rules.

packing id imagine would just be gauze but you couldn't leave it in its just to try and stop bleeding till you can get it properly sorted.

sticking anything inside wounds is very risky for infection.

Only thing I can think of is anticeptic to clean the wound it also promotes clotting, but I'd really seek true medical advice rather than ask us forumites who are quite clearly under qualified to open you up and weld you back shut again!

It's not for me, not after medical advice, was just wondering what they stuff inside and exactly why.

Read around its to stop infection forming.

Not advising that this is the correct thing to do, but when I had an open wound I squeezed it shut and superglued it in place, worked perfectly, but I wish I had shaved the area first as it also waxed me!

Aquacel is what they used on my abscess. It's most uncomfortable when they did it too! It's to stop the top of the wound healing over and having a hollow under the skin that could promote infection. It's to allow the would to heal from the inside out as it were.

Cheers man, that makes sense, doing some research there are a few different types of packing they use.

How long did your wound take to heal? as I imagine the packing prolongs it.

This^^
You also have Aquacel AG with silver, both types turn to a gell
that fights bacteria and stops the wound drying out.

Heh - unfortunately it was a perianal abscess that developed into a fistula. The fistula was treated with a Seton stitch that was in place for about 12 months or so -.-
The large, abscess on the outside was packed for just under two week iirc
