Would I waste money if I got a gtx 550ti?

At the cost of trading in both my 4850s I can get one for £26 or if I add in the gts 250 for whatever it adds, I could probably get a 560ti for under 40 and a 6870 2nd hand obviously.

I read the 550ti is much better than the 6670 and right now I've got the gts in my computer as it has hdmi, but obviously when I stop buying decent dx10 and under games I will be looking at dx11 and better games in general. I got gta 5 on 360 so don't care to try that even though YouTube videos show the e8400 doing well, but bf3 I don't own anymore so might get that on PC this time..

Save it . Played it @ 1366x768 on older games a good 2 years ago and was awful then .

Most min GPU requirements for anything half intensive seem To be around 570/660 . Save ya pennies IMO

Just get rid of all your old cards and try to find a 2nd hand 7850 for around £60 if possible. The 550Ti is only on par with the 7750, and both are not particularly fast card.

Thanks for replies guys.

I nearly got the 550 but by time I could get the money the shop was closing lol. Same shop but different location there's a 7770 ape verde for 50, trouble is I read that has a 3.0 interface type, pretty sure my Asus p5g deluxe doesn't go beyond 2.0 and wouldn't want to compromise on what little performance that differs to..

My setup with gts 250 maxes out crysis, I know that's old hat now but it was 2.50 in shop and my computer is from around the same time so it's not technically too old for my system.

Okay what would be a decent card for medium maybe high graphics on bf3?? Haven't played that it ages and might purchase it either disc or steam if cheap enough as it be a little more computer pushing that most of the free games.

I have seen on YouTube my e8400 with my 6670 playing it well, this cpu even plays gta 5 with a decent gpu not that I want to own 2 copies just because of platform.

Doesn't look like your motherboard supports Core 2 Quad processors, I feel this will really be your limiting factor. Even if you can get a decent overclock out of your current chip.

:EDIT: Just found out you are actually running a P5Q Deluxe (I guess you typo'd P5G), I think upgrading to a Q6600 or similar is a good bet.

There's a B grade 7850 for 80 quid here at Overclockers. I've owned a few 7850's and even tried crossfiring them once. It is a decent card which is perfectly capable of running any game as long as you tweak the settings.

I was perfectly happy with mine, Since there release I've owned 2x Sapphire o/c 7850 2gb, 1 x MSI 7850 2gb, and 1x 2gb Sapphire R7 265.

The 7850/265 chip is still around only now it's in the 370.

The clocks are faster but the 7850's Pitcairn chip in now the updated Trinidad chip. Like Hawaii became Grenada, Pitcairn became Trinidad.

It's a great little card. 550ti's etc just haven't got the grunt for modern gaming.

The 7850 was a great little card, and a beast for overclocking. I had a pair of them overclocked to 1.2ghz in crossfire and they chewed up anything I threw at them at 1080p.

Sorry yes p5q, it's because I'm using my phone and the suggestion bit is funny about typing be like that lol..

Anyways thanks for the replies, in the end I got the 6870, haven't turned computer on yet, but 560ti became just out of reach and at the end of the day it's miles better than my 6670 so as long as that was the case and supported dx11 I would've been happy either way..

What I think I'll do is stick this card out as long as I can and see what this computer can do and focus on getting a 64bit windows and a quad core and go beyond 4gb ram and make he most of what I got as I can't be bothered with hunting for new stuff, that or save up and buy a more up to date gaming computer as I've seen loads on auctions that are newer but over £350 and not got that sort of money anymore..
