Food going to needy?

It's an excellent idea, and never understood why this wasn't done before.

I've eaten plenty of food that's out of date, not had any problems. It's just wasteful destroying it, just because it's past it's best. If your homeless and without food, it's better than nothing.

depends how it is drafted - a blanket ban on throwing it away is dumb - giving charities some optionality on the food that is earmarked for disposal would be sensible though... so long as they can claim it/pick it up swiftly - then anything they chose not to claim/pick up gets chucked by the supermarket.

Having lived in France for 2 and a half years now, the only thing I would change is the silly global wealth tax. I'm being taxed twice for being successful, that sucks. Besides that, awesome country compared to the bleakness that is the UK. Scandinavia is better then both, but their taxes are even worse.

I was quite horrified some time last year when I was in a Tesco store, seeing them piling unsold loaves of bread into bin bags 15 minutes before closing time. None of it had even been reduced.

This sort of thing is a good idea in principle, of course, but is only a useful exercise if there is actually enough demand for the food - otherwise you're just moving it from the supermarket to the charity to throw away. probably, there's a balance somewhere
