Anybody else had any problems with their MSI 980TI Gaming card? Last night i was playing rocket league when I got a lock up with red squares all over the screen in a sort of check board pattern. After i rebooted my machine I tried elite as i thought maybe it was rocket league causing the issue but the same thing happened after a minute or so. Had the card for over a month and its not had any issues before, I've not overclocked it either so its running at the factory clocks.

I've checked to make sure it wasn't overheating and also tried old drivers to no avail. Looks like its RMA time

Anybody had any experience with MSI returns?

Ouch, have you tried running the card in silent mode? Should bring the clocks down to stock. The Gaming has several modes all of which besides Silent mode are overclocked.

Worth trying, might be unstable at the given clocks. Either way definitely RMA.

Had my MSI 980ti for about 4 weeks and I love it, if your not overclocked and your getting problems like that it doesn't sound good. Is that happening on any other games?

Yep sadly MSI are appalling at RMA IME

OCUK helped me out & gave me a new card as MSI were quoting a long RMA time OCUK gave me a brand new card from their own stock so it was all good in the end only thanks to OCUK superb customer service though ;) thats why I would not buy anything from MSI again :(

Thats not encouraging!

Going to do some more testing tonight to make sure its absolutely the card that is at fault. So far its crashed in Rocket League, Elite Dangerous and Heaven and always within a few minutes or less. I replaced it with one of my old 780ti's last night and was able to play elite for a few hours without issue.

It's only a month old; it is on OcUK to sort it, not MSI.

Its almost 2 months old now so past OcUKs 28 day deadline. Its going to have to MSI but I think OcUK will have to be the middleman as MSI don't deal directly with UK customers.

Raise an RMA with MSI see what they say otherwise contact OCUK see if they can help you.

I would check your PSU they do degrade over time & cause crashing also do not overclock anything set CPU + GPU + RAM back to stock speeds. You can also run the games @ say 50% resolution to put less strain on the GPU + PSU if the crashes remain @ say 1280x720 resolution ingame then its most likely the GPU.

I'm not sure if it's changed since then, but I dealt directly with MSI for an RMA of a GTX 460 in October last year. They were great, dealt with it in a few days once it arrived and shipped a GTX 570 back to me. Only caveat is that their service centre is in the Netherlands, meaning postage will be quite a bit with insurance (I didn't bother with that for the 460, since it was worth about the same as a can of baked beans).

Great, I knew I was taking a risk with my 980Tis, MSI RMA was the only thing that I was worried about.
So far they are both ok, and I hope they stay that way!

Let us know what happens, and how long it takes.

So after a bit more testing tonight I'm certain that its the card thats faulty. Tried it in PCI-E slot 2 with the rest of the system at stock and it still crashes after a few minutes of heaven (temps hit 78 degrees before the crash).

Currently have 2 780ti's in my system and able to loop heaven without any problems so I doubt its my PSU as the 780ti's should be putting it under considerably more strain then a single 980ti.

I haven't tried down clocking the 980ti to see if i can get it running stable but honestly i'm not interested in it running at anything less then what its rated for on the box. Its going back.

I RMA'd a motherboard directly with them when another retailer refused the return, had to pay £16 to send it to the Netherlands, but got a replacement board back in about 10 days

OK so i thought i'd post an update here. Its been a months wait but finally today i received my replacement card. I was expecting to get a refurb back from MSI but was pleasantly surprise that OCUK sent me a brand new one from their retail stock. (I only returned the card and kept the original box/accessories) I've tested it a bit and everything seems to be working so all is good :)

Probably the longest I've had to wait for an RMA but i can't fault OCUK. I sent my card via royal mail special delivery and at 10am the next day i had an email from confirming receipt and then another email 2 hours later saying that they were sending it on to MSI. Fantastic service there!
