There are 28' 1080p, there are 28' 4K, yet 28' 1440p seems to be MIA..

There are 27' 1440p screens I hear you say.. but 27' is too small, one inch may not sound like much difference to a 28' but it barely looks any larger than my current 24' screen, whilst a 28' does look appreciably bigger.

32' 1440p are nice but they're too big for my needs and the pixel pitch is hardly any different to a 24' 1080p.

Ultra wide monitors don't interest me either.

28' 1440p would be perfect for both pixel pitch and big screen impact..but there are none...and its bloody annoying

Mostly to do with Manufacturing processes / Dot pitch, and to some extent the price consumers will pay.

28" 1080p - probably super cheap to make (e.g. using older machinery/process)
28" 4k - Likely optimum size to make 4k panels
27" 1440p - Probably optimum size based on the dot pitch required for 1440p
32" 1440p - again probably cheaper to make due to having less pixel density

How come you dont like ultra wides?

1440p is the perfect resolution for my 970 SLI setup, I get a rock solid 60fps in just about every game out there.

Ultra wides either have the horrible 1080 vertical resolution or jump up to 3440x1440 which is too high to guarantee 60fps with 970's.

3440x1440 is great though :D

It basically sounds like that the only reason you don't like ultrawide is because your cards don't run it as well as you'd like. That's not really fair. It is great as snappyfish says. Don't knock it just because your system isn't up to the task. I don't see a market for 28" 1440p, nor are any such monitors on the horizon that I am aware... so you may be better served by upgrading your GPU's and enjoying the ultrawide goodness. :)

The only upgrade worth considering from 970 Sli is 980Ti Sli...and I'll be damned if I'm going to spend over £1K on graphics cards, I felt sick enough spending £600 on the 970's.

970Sli is all I need/want until Nvidia release their Pascal cards next year.

My cards are similar performance as yours and seem to handle every game ive played fine at 3440x1440.

Its a big leap up in impact from my mates 27" 1440p screen. Have you had a look at a few benches in the games you play at this res?

Um 970's in SLi is fine for 4k, so why not buy 4k. CPC have the cards in their 4k section.

I've played games via DSR at more than 1440p and whilst many games do still maintain 60fps, the list gets smaller and smaller the higher you go and only with reductions to in game settings whilst 1440p just seems to stay at 60fps (max/ultra settings) no matter what game I throw at them, I know some people are fine with games running at 40-50fps at higher resolutions, but I'm not one of them, 60fps or die..:p

So buy 4K or ultra wide, reduce a couple of settings to keep a constant 60fps if needed, because like you said, you're upgrading next year anyways to Pascal...

You do seem to be making mountains out of molehills.

28" 1440p doesn't exist. Economies of scale and such.

Bigger screen =/= better. Why does a 1440p screen have to be so big?

And lower your ****ing settings if you can't get 60fps. It's not like it makes any significant difference at all.

I find a big difference between my 24" and 27" monitors.

I even find the 27" too big sometimes, keep having to push away from the desk a bit to give myself a bit of room!
