anyone a profitable twitch streamer??

I don't really get watching other people game i find it boring unless i want to check out the game.

I was in a party chat with crusher one night whilst he played 2 competitive private matches. So I could hear the sort of calls they make whilst in a game.

So I decided to watch his stream so I could see how he plays from his point of view.

The stream laggs by like 10-15 seconds so everything they were saying in the party chat was out of sync. But I knew what was going to happen before it did so I could look out for it.

Watching from his point of view I learned at least 2-3 tricks which would help me with my game. Obviously I'll never be as good as him, but i now know a couple of neat things which will help me get better.

That and to see what a new game looks like are the only reasons why I would watch a stream. I don't understand why gamers get "donations" unless of course they are carrying someone through something like trials. Don't understand why they get viewers either. I mean there are far better forms of entertainment available.

Me and my bother are going to start a twitch stream but more for retro games, not for the money as i can imagine that being very hard to make anything decent out of it but just as something to do, we have a good spare pc, elgato hd , spare room and 700+ retro games. So we are just going to stick the cam on and play the classics with no emulation and have a bit crack on and a few drinks lol. We will be playing the classis like turtles in time, and some fun games like micro machines and anything else we have ppl want to watch...should b fun

I stream on twitch often, usually H1Z1. I rarely get any viewers. I mainly do so because I can record my game play.

I think to be successful it relys on the following

Luck
Having a good personality
Engaging with your viewers
Playing the right games, at the right time (I.e. Either slightly before they come out or at launch)
Luck, luck and more luck?
Advertising your stream well, maybe on a forum or place where you're popular.
Dedicating time to the stream
Face cam probably helps.

I don't think it has anything to do with being the top player or even in the top 20, probably helps but not loads.

I totally agree with Sonny about the female thing though. Most on the chat are desperate kiddies asking to see bewbs.

Doesn't look that way to me, still predominantly male on top channels as far as I can tell. Good to see more of the fairer sex getting exposure in my book.

I watch a stream game show (video games awesome). The show format is a casual one where they basically sit on a couch and play games. It's hardly MLG but they are unique and their shows are a good laugh.

Yeah, a quick look through the most popular Twitch accounts and they are dominated by females. Quite sad, really.

It is hardly dominated by females. I think the % of female streamers with over 50k followers is around 5% maybe.

Why would that be sad anyway?

it would be interesting to know what percentage of females are regular gamers.

specifically females that are say of working age (>16). i bet the numbers are ridiculously low.

on ps4 (the one one the console itself) streams 4-6 are usually female in the top 20.

so it is pretty sad they are being watched because they are female and nothing to do with being skilled or entertaining (other than the fact their sex is entertaining to some).

I think you'd be surprised how many women play games regularly...they just don't let it be known they're female because of the **** they catch most of the time.

i know there are tons out there but as a percentage i imagine it's extremely low compared to males percentage wise.

i also imagine it's higher in countries like south korea and japan than it is in say germany.

I think you would be surprised. Women just don't advertise their gender online in public so your sampling is extremely biased. Even just going by the crowds at Gamescom it's really not that huge a disparity. Plenty of ladies queueing up to have a go at TTK :>

Sure some of them might be being watched because they are pretty or whatever but people like that hardly ever hold viewers for a long time. There is usually a different reason for people continuously tuning in.

You have people like Hafu who are incredibly skilled at the game they play and offer commentary on the decision making so people can learn and improve from them.

Then you have people like Kaceytron which is just pure entertainment and hilarious.

Girls streamers can be popular for plenty of reasons but the most successful ones are definitely not the ones that get views just because they are female.

This disproves what your saying, if his the best sniper in the game and he has 5 viewers its not just based on skill. If you take Destiny for example TripleWreck is not the best player, and he will openly tell everyone that, but he the most popular streamer in destiny right now. Its not just his skill level either, his fun too watch, interacts with subs, helps subs and is a nice guy.

There was another streamer, I can't remember his name now but he was average at best, but was really funny and joked about sucking, he has had like 1000 people online at times.

Moreover looking at DTR I'm guessing your friend is GoEasySonny, if so some of it could be that I've never seen him in the community personal, never seen him on reddit, on sweaties and so on. You don't just ride your skill, you need too also promote yourself, some guys like mtashed have their youtube channels and series like crucible school to try and get their name out there, it works well.

Edit: Just saw GoEasySonny montage on youtube, its really good, but Ive put up random crap that has more then 87 views, his not even trying is he, a quick post on r/crucible for the montage post ever week would easily get him a lot more views.

this

what people need to think about before deciding to do youtube or twitch professionally is "do people like to listen to my voice" because unless the answer to that is yes, theres no point.

Whats more, its something you can't be taught, or learn. You're either really enjoyable to hear speaking or your not. Look at popular youtube streamers and the popular ones can do anything. PewDiePie is a multi millionaire, and made it just doing lets play videos randomly playing new games. But people like to listen to his voice.

You either need to be female and pretty, or enjoyable to listen to. Skill has nothing to do with how popular you are, unless you are referencing the people who pay to be carried in trials, but that won't last forever.

One of the guys I work with is very successful with his streaming to the point where he actually earns more from streaming than he does in his actual job. He has 1 day off a week but the rest of the time when he is home he is streaming. He got lucky in that Lyric or whatever his name was and him met up on a game and became friends, Lyric gave him a shout out and his channel grew, for the game he was playing I believe he is top 5-10 views for the game. He does some random stuff too like plays the piano and all sorts, always chatting and explaining what he is doing etc.

I just clicked on both of those links and yup both of them fit the stereotypes exactly.

One is an asian girl gamer yup always see them with plenty of viewers on ps4.

The other had her baps on show in fact she had her baps on show twice at the same time. one was a low cut top on the live cam pointing downwards so you can see her cleavage perfectly then was a rotating screenshot of previous shows where she had low cut tops with the cam in same position.

So I can see why both of them are popular.
