I7 5820 Asus X99-S

I've got mine to 4.1GHz with very little effort at 1.1V core, temps are 60 degrees using a Noctua NH-D15. I'll go for 4.4 or so shortly.

I have the ASUS X99-DELUXE With same chip and a NH-D15

Running at 4.375 using 1.190v on test it will sit at around 70-72 max it will pop up to is about 75-76

The next jump up my CPU will go up to 80 so I decided to stay with 4.375

Andybird123 .. what rad you got on it ?

5820k - X99-S - Vengeance 3000mhz cas 16 (4x4GB)

waterblock is an XSPC and rad is a 360mm GT-Lite (it was the cheapest 360mm rad OCUK had when they were selling off their hardware labs stuff)

As always though, bear in mind that it can vary according to the CPU. I have an MSI X99A and an Asus X99-A USB3.1 and a 5820K. Getting 4.2GHz to be stable for more than an hour or two is something I've given up on - it just won't do it even at 1.3v.

Hopefully you have better luck with your CPU.

both of those motherboards have less power phases than the -S
the mistake I made when I went X79 was buying a cheap mobo that I then had loads of issues with overclocking, I made sure this time to spend a little extra and get one that had good reviews for clocking

that MSI in particular, running at 4.4ghz, gave the same bench scores as an Asus -S running at 4.2

That is true, but plenty of other people have had success with both the MSI X99A and Asus X99-A hitting 4.4GHz+ overclocks so I'm not sure the boards are the limiting factor here with my chip. Though as you say the board can still play a part. It's all a gamble, one which I lose every single time :)
