I'm currently in the market for a Daily 4x4, probably new as they are so bloody rare I'll never get one second hand in time.

Just wondering if anyone has ever had any experience with one and what they though?

As they are bespoke, the chances of an actual testdrive before purchase is very slim unless a current owner steps forward and gives permission. I can test drive a standard Daily with the same trans/engine etc and I might be able to view a 4x4, but won't be able to drive one.

Anyone?

Our drivers tell me IVECO stands for It Vibrates Everything Comes Off.

That is literally the only contribution I can make to this thread :p

Ivecos of any description are rubbish, absolutely dreadful build quality.

They were second only to Renault masters in the race to the scrap yard.

Spot on!

Whilst primary talking of HGV experience, Iveco's are dire. The Stralis is lovely to drive until (not if) something fails! - and that's assuming you've never driven a Volvo FH, Merc Actros or something from my username....

I've driven a few Daily's and can only say we're I in the market for such a vehicle, Iveco would be a marque I'd avoid.

Why one of these? Is it the 4x4 configuration that draws you to it?

Can I just check we are all talking about Iveco's from this decade :D I know they have a bad past reputation for reliability and rust..

It's not so much the 4x4 part as it is the >3500 GVW. The Daily comes in 4500,5000 & 6500. My requirements put me over 3500 which rules out land rovers, transits, sprinters..

The only competitor I have come across is the Canter and the Cabstar.. but I'm not a massive fan of the cabover.

You haven't looked that hard then, what's wrong with a 511 Cdi? Or a 4700kg transit jumbo?

Well the transit is a conversion so I'm not that interested but it's interesting that Mercedes told me they only go up to 3 5 with the 4x4. I'll be ringing them back today to ask them if they know what they are talking about. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Shame the Iveco isnt favoured. I like the look of the 2015. Looks pretty mean on a 4x4 chassis.

I drive an Iveco on a daily basis, not a daily 4x4, but they are literally the most dire vehicle in existence. Generally reliable but made of plastic and interior bits literally fall off for no reason. Everything that isn't plastic will peel. If you have no interest in resale value or anything it will be fine as a working vehicle, but you will not enjoy it. :p

I drove one from Denmark to Belgium and back (2wd version).
Seemed fine for that, but then I have no experience with goods vehicles.

FWIW, also drove the same route with a Renault Master at Vmax the whole way and it was fine :p

Looks like the general consensus is that the Iveco is **** lol. I've got one on test drive some time next week but I'm glad this thread happened as I will now be taking a much more cynical approach to reviewing the vehicle.

The idea for this vehicle is that it would be worked for 5-10 years then converted to a camper for world wide travel. One thing that has been in the back of my mind is the lack of support for vehicle outside of Europe, especially when compared with a Merc of Mitsubishi.

I called Mercedes today who insisted the sprinted 4x4 was 3500 max. I told them to Google it while I was on the phone and he said he never knew about it. Very strange. I want to look into the Sprinter now. Going to have to use a dealer the next county over seeing as the local one doesn't even know what range they have to offer.

A new Iveco will feel and drive just fine - as you'd damn well hope so! - but be aware it most certainly is not something I would advise as a long term prospect IMO.

Again, speaking from the HGV side, where they are massively over engineered compared to vans,a 3year old Iveco usually feels quite tired and ready for replacement.

Merc,Volvo and Scanias of similar age (and around 300k miles) are feeling just right and it seems almost daft to retire them (company policy).

I wish Scania did <7.5 trucks. They'd be ******' mint. This vehicle is effectively a vehicle for life. As I said, I plan to work it for 5-10 years then use it for travel, so it has to be bloody good. If an Iveco hgv can't last 3 years, how is van going to last 20?!

Please fully star out all swearing in future. Thank you.

I've not entirely excluded the Canter. It's just afaik they don't do anything between the 3.5 and 6 in 4x4 but due to moving house, I've put the whole thing on hold.

It's pretty much looking like it will be the sprinter. I've been talking to everyone I meet about the iveco and they all say the same thing. The transit 4x4 conversions are hit and miss and from what I can tell, Ford do not do one out of the factory. The sprinter looks good and I'm hoping with it being a merc, it will be of a daily good standard and parts available world wide. I just hate there new electronic 4x4 system, looks entirely impractical.

I know the land rover are small in comparison but I also know they will last over 20 years, I have several, though I do not know what they are like from puma onwards.
