980ti cannot achieve max settings on Crysis 3 at 1080p?

Same settings as above but only using 4 cores and no H/T on the 5960X

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
5609, 86422, 49, 99, 64.902

****Update*****

After upgrading my machine, using a new motherboard (Z97-A), new CPU (4690K @4.6Ghz), sticking it on a new SSD drive and still using the 980TI of course, I can still not run Crysis on very high at 1080p. I get below 60fps as soon as I enter a grassy area, which is odd because benchmarks I see in this game achieve upto and even surpasses 100fps when at 1080p resolution.

As said earlier the grass physics in the Welcome to the Jungle level is particularly taxing on the CPU. I remember a DF video showing ~10fps gains on that level just from having HT though that i5 at 4.6 should be pretty snappy. GPU Usage for you look okay ?

Which benchmarks are you referring to ?

I am referring to these benchmarks specifically as they are the only 1080p results I came across. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-graphics-card-upgrade-guide-update-2?page=5

I haven't checked GPU usage, I will give an update after I reinstalled the game. I deleted it in frustration of even building a new computer with all new parts didn't fix the issue : P

DSR to 2560*1440 and see what frames you get.

Also, how low are your frame rates dipping at 1080?

Looks like the DF run stays between 80-120 for almost the entirety of the Crysis 3 segment there. A lot of it wasn't in the open and they did use an i7 - shame they didn't show the CPU load. I just loaded up a save on one of the most taxing areas and it is loading all cores 70%+ on this 5820K :o

When I get 40-50fps it drops to around 60%. When I am getting 100+ Fps (looking at a wall for instance in doors) it goes to nearly 100% which is strange. CPU around 85%

Simplistic answer: when you look at floors walls ceilings etc the cpu isnt under load (no scene/object rendering to be done) hence fps shoots up as the gpu can work at full speed as it doesn't have to wait for the cpu.

all you can do is tweak some of the settings to reduce cpu load or OC your cpu a bit more

a bit more than 4.6Ghz? Thats insane if I need to overclock further to run this game well : /

Depends on the level of AA, but I can definitely run Crysis 3 max settings with FXAA or SMAA T2x at 1080p and get minimums of 60 fps. In fact I get quite close to 60 fps minimum at 1440p. This is with a 2700K @ 4.6 and 980ti (MSI Gaming edition at stock).

Of course you can't expect an absolute min of 60fps, there will always be brief instances where it drops below 60, but for 99% of the time it will be above 60% at 1080p with the settings mentioned above.

Some stats:

Max GPU Usage: 96
Max GPU Temperature: 70c
MAX GPU Clock: 1445mhz
Max Memory Clock: 3703mhz
Max CPU Usage: 100
Max CPU Temperature 72c

Graphical Settings: Everything Very high except object detail and Shadows which are set to high. AA set to FXAA and running at 1080p.

Second level, I am getting between 40-60fps. 60fps when not looking at grass, 40fps when looking at grass.

Should've got the i7? :p
If i can be bothered I'll try it on mine with 4cores/HT off in the grassy area =]

Some pictures illustrating my issue.

Just stick them in spoiler tags when they are that massive :)

Did a test on the 2nd level after you leave Psycho...

1080 max settings (8xMSAA)
5820K @ 4.4GHz - 3x970
6 CPU cores 12 threads:

5820K @ 4.4GHz - 3x970
4 CPU cores 4 threads:

Less than half the FPS  - didn't quite expect that much of a hit but CPU is almost 100% and GPU usage plummeted

I don't know of a single other game that is this affected by CPU though
