980ti cannot achieve max settings on Crysis 3 at 1080p?

Well I guess this means I should just give up on Crysis 3, never gonna happen unless I upgrade to an i7, and that is never gonna happen either.

Oh well, hopefully their next game is better optimised.

It's down to your resolution too, as 980Ti is better @ 1440. At 1080, the CPU is a bottleneck.

So, pretty much the same FPS at a higher resolution. This is why I suggested you DSR to 1440 and drop a few settings.

.

To be fair, my i7 at 4.6 was jumping between 80 and 90% usage in those tests I did.

Well I just give up, I think its more down to just poor optimisation, I mean why would they not spread the usage out between the CPU and GPU instead of having most of it CPU bound?

I guess there are reasons, but doesn't really make use of my 980ti either way, so I guess i'll just call it a day on Crysis.

Should've got the i7? :p
If i can be bothered I'll try it on mine with 4cores/HT off in the grassy area =]

That's what I don't get, If he is so bothered by the performance of this particular game and he was told how it benefits from hyperthreading why move from an i5 to an i5?

@ saintdefender. It would have made more sense to get the i7 if this titles performance bothers you so much.

This was before I realised about an i7, and to be honest why should I go out of my way and spend £100 more just to play Crysis? Its not worth it. I am happy not playing it, and now glad that i have confirmation what the issue was.

Again, this isn't MY problem, this is a problem with the game not utilising enough GPU usage, I won't spend money on trying to fix problems that the developers can fix on their end. Though I know that won't happen, but since I played Ryse and it performed really well, I am going to assume that the guys behind Crysis have learned their lesson on this.

Crysis 3 from what I can remember was a very multi threaded, loved as many cores as you could throw at it game. Maldo looked into this and that was his conclusion, unfortunately I can't find his blog or video on it anymore.

However, a quick search on YT brings up this:

So much for that other thread that says an i5 is all you need . Some games and upcoming games like Hitman will definitely see a performance improvement with an i7.

DX11.... or is it using 9 or 10, either way...

Really? Well looks like i'll be selling this CPU at some point and buying an i7. Why do people mislead us when it comes to these purchases, I should have done my own research than relying on people saying "i5 is more than enough".

People mislead because they probably base there facts on the games they play, COD and such like, allowing no headroom for present and upcoming titles, i wouldn't like to see my cou run at 100% just to play my fave game its just asking for trouble in my opinion, they should stick to consols, overkill is good! As you never know when you might need those extra cores or gpu grunt.

Just had a thought, perhaps DX12 will not require me to purchase an i7 after all? Overkill is good my man, but only if you can afford it..

But both are running at less than 60fps..so equal fail as far as I'm concerned, 45fps is just as crap as 36fps when compared to 60fps.

If i7 meant the difference between a rock solid 60fps or not then I would have got one...but I've yet to see an example where it does.

All it means is a slightly better frame rate where its actually used and the gap to 60fps is still too big to make spending the extra £80 worth it just for games.

Far better to spend the extra £80 on a better GPU.
