Hi all,

Pure curiosity more than anything, are we likely to see an MPS version of the new Mazda 6? Has anyone seen anything online? rumours etc?

TIA
Jake

Seen nothing. Shame, as the one thing the 6 really needs is an interesting engine.

Mazda seem to have dropped all the interesting cars other than the MX5 now. Wonder what diesel econobox I'll get when I take my RX8 in to get serviced?

2.3 DISI Turbo wasnt interesting?
Loved both of the ones I've had.

Theres been a few rumours, mainly regarding the 3.
I read a while back that the suggested lineup was a all new MX5, which is now released soon.

A 3mps, skyactiv based turbo engine rocking about 300bhp 4WD
A 6mps and a 6coupe
A new Rex based vehicle

Mazda have remained very tight lipped however and I've battered every mailbox I can find for them :p

Will wait and see then. I won't be changing cars for at least a couple of years and before I bought mine it was either that or the 6MPS at the time. Would still like to own one at some point, hence the curiosity!

TBH I wouldn't say no to the 3MPS either. Just prefer the 6 as I prefer a saloon over a hatchback.

Late next year is fine by me. I won't be buying until 2018 at a push anyway I don't think :D

loved my 6mps, but they're now getting long in the tooth and some older mps engines seem to gone pop with stretching timing chains in the last few years. I spent ages trying to find as pristine example as I could, but it still cost a bomb with upkeep, even simple jobs became problematic as all the rear drivetrain parts were so rare/unique and a lot of Mazda's documentation still called up the std 6 components despite the awd system on the mps. e.g. an abs sensor went flaky, so asked Mazda parts for one, but didn't fit (as it was the 1 for the non mps). tried another, nope. mazda were insisting they had provided the right part, and would only fit themselves with a diagnostic - turning it into a £250 job...

With new rear diff mounts, TIP and intake, Cobb (and tune from the infamous "Justin" in the mps scene) it's a beast of a sleeper...

I thought the proposed new 3mps was awd, so being almost a cross between the existing 3 and 6 mps. There seem to be fewer and fewer "hot" saloons, so I can't imagine them risking another 6 mps as a saloon - but you could imagine a coupe version?

There's a massive market for these cars, especially in the States as I believe the Mazdaspeed (mps) are v popular there, but that doesn't mean they can justify designing a new car. Look at the rotary cars - RX7 and RX8 popular but afaik they've said they're not developing the good old Wankel any more.

They won't be making a 6 MPS, which is a shame as the design deserves something fast and sporty.

They are working on a new rotary engine for a new sports car that will be based off an MX5. But that is a good few years away.

Without a doubt that new sports concept is the new RX9, simple as that and it'll see light of day end of 2017. 300bhp WANKEL POWER!

The issue they had with the wankel engine, AFAIK, was trying to get it to meet the stricter emission regulations...
