Landlord charging the full cost of a replacement mattress, do I have a leg to stand on?

Well for anyone that's interested, i entered a dispute with the letting protection service and submitted only my AST, the picture my landlords gave me and my correspondence with the landlord in evidence, and today they agreed to refund me the full amount. The system works! Eventually...

In all seriousness, i would refuse to pay for it. Not exactly a ruined mattress is it. :rolleyes:
 
Its standard practice in my experience landlords/letting agents will find any excuse to try and hang on your deposit, scratch on the paintwork and whatnot. Its really up to you to dispute it and stick to your guns etc.
