28580 Job vacancies available in Liverpool on Indeed.co.uk

And I'm sure he has the qualifications and experience required for every one of those.

You should call Ian Duncan Smith and let him know you're taking his job.

I suppose every time somebody falls on hard times they should have no choice but to sell everything and live in a bare room?

No but before resorting to "charity" surely you would sell any "superfluous" items of value?

When I was made redundant "back in the day" I sold my beloved BMW Z4 because I knew I just could afford to keep it anymore, bought myself an old LPG Volvo as I managed to land a job. The drawback was it was 4 hours (190 miles in the car everyday, I knew I had to get myself back into work ASAP, didn't matter what the job was or how far it was away.

People seem to find an excuse not to work, they're ill, it's too far away, it's not what they want to do, it's too menial etc. etc. etc, just grow a pair and get a job! That job will lead to another job, more responsibility in time a promotion + better pay etc.

Post asked for help, surely finding a job is the most helpful thing given the situation. Theres 30k jobs there to look through rather than playing GTA.

If I do a search just within a couple of miles or so of me it pops up with 8K vacancies - a large number of which are within the service industry, etc. and require specific experience and qualifications to not get pretty much automatically rejected.

EDIT: That said (I'm currently in employment) one of the first jobs it returned I could (very likely) walk into tomorrow with a slightly over 7% pay increase which is unusual - generally most of the jobs around here aren't very well suited to me.

OP print of your CV a couple hundred times. Go to the local shopping centre and hand out your CV in every shop/ restaurant.

The exercise will help your depression and general well being (I see losing weight is high on your agenda). You might meet a nice girl on your adventure.

Also you might find a job.

If anything it's a day out.

I don't see a computer as superfluous in the 21st century.

Sorry then we'll have to disagree mate, if it was a choice between putting food an the table for my family and having a PC then it's an absolute no brainer!

So if you follow that logic he'll also need broadband, why not throw in HD TV and the sports pack while you're about it. Don't forget the 4K TV to watch it all on, can't go without the 21C essentials. God forbid if they're a smoker and you asked if they should also cut down on ciggies, that's their human right!!!

I mean seriously come off it :(

How did I miss this?

Maybe not to you, but loads of people would kill for a PC at home... I know a couple. It's not even just the PC it's the associated costs like broadband. He then has one with a gtx 970... hardly your standard home pc.

Very short sighted decision in this day and age though - if there was any real meaningful value to be made from selling it/parts and downsizing I'd be more inclined towards that end but after all the messing around he wouldn't really be left with much.

I don't know. Say you had a rig that you could sell for £500 (not unrealistic when you got a £300 gfx card). That's 7 weeks worth of JSA there.

Granted to the average Joe it's not much. But when you have kids and are resorting to the internet for charity £500 should be a hell of a lot of money to you.

but then playing devils advocate, we all know how cheap stuff sells for on the MM, so say he gets £300 for the bits, what then? Spend every waking moment staring at four walls while waiting for phonecalls for interviews?

It seems threads like these just drag out herpderpgetajerb-ers, I've never been unemployed (luckily) but it seems everyone has all the easy answers....

And then what? that £500 would soon go (and unlikely you'd be able to sell it soon enough to cover the immediate problems) and in the long run if things don't improve - if he is genuinely stuck in the situation indefinitely - its made an already depressing life that bit more depressing.

I think you may be missing the point that the sanction seems on face value to be a little unjust though. Selling his rig shouldn't be necessary.

I'm not kicking, well... maybe a kick up the back side...

He has demonstrated that he can't commit to an appointment once a fortnight.

He is (apparently) a regular on here with these kind of stories and people (selflessly) help him out (I applaud these people) but even some of the more patient types are wearing thin with him not helping himself.

He has kids. He has a responsibility bigger than himself. Stick to that appointment as it means everything. If I was destitute and had kids I would sell the last shirt on my back to help my kids.

I would be marching round shopping centres with CV's.

I wouldn't be on a internet forum ranting.

If the sanction is unjust and he appeals, the whole thread was unnecessary... (if he is telling us the truth his payment will resume shortly)
