Nvidia is the king of the GPU market

This Thread was doomed from the start. DOOMED!

Although it may contain some factual information, it is still click bait and inflammatory. :D

It hasn't always been like that tho has it? the same "light a fire under AMD's Ass" press was going on when AMD were the better Price / Performance option.

Now they don't have the financial means to keep that up. they have not had the R&D to keep it up, cutting prices will only accelerate drying up of their coffers, perhaps not a bad thing tho, a quick death as opposed to a longer drawn out one.

I think even if AMD did face the end, assets would be bought, so Radeon etc would live on in one form or another.

I don't think this is the end yet. AMD on the ropes but this time next year I think things could be very different. Even current products would look very good with lower pricing / game bundles.

Nvidia are ahead and deserve it tbh, great products.

(Titan X aside) Even the pricing isn't to bad.

I'll wait another year before declaring AMD dead :D

Nvidia have had the edge over AMD for a while now. Yes the drivers have been a bit rubbish recently but that's easily fixed compared the making new hardware. They need to step up there game in both the CPU and GPU market to give Intel and Nvidia some competition again

Nvidia's Drivers are socking right now ^^^^ i have gone from a 290 with rock solid win 10 Drivers to a 970 with misbehaving Drivers. Nvidia's Driver superiority is one of those falsehoods.

Even if the rights to Radeon was bought it requires a vast R&D injection from people who don't necessarily want to take on Nvidia.

Next year if AMD are still in business it will be exactly the same as this year, and last year, and the year before that...... a good reason why a buyer wouldn't want to take over from AMD. they would bankrupt themselves.

Don't forget to bring your parrot ;) :p

:D

I don't get it,

Humbug = the parrot?

Don't kill the dream Humbug. A Samsung branded Radeon GPU will one day be mine :D

No surprise really! More people turning to mobile gaming and console gaming nowa days. And with the recent turn of events where AMD released nothing for a good while after the 290x it allowed nVidia to crack in the 970 and 980 cards which were cracking cards although 970 IMO now seems less appealing with the VRamgate issue. But the 980 is still a cracking card it sent a lot of people over to nVidia.

Then the king came out the Titan x! And the enthusiasts went for this card until it had a baby and it over threw the king and left quite a few of the early Titan x adopters with a sour taste in thier mouth tho a lot are happy. Now a much cheaper(Edit - less expensive) king is here the 980Ti! All AMD had to fall back on was the Fury x and it was hyped up like nothing i've seen before.

2x power efficency
more powerful than 980Ti
HMB is AMAZING
amazing watercooled
bla bla bla

Turns out its not faster,
Not as power efficient as described.
HBM is quite good not as amazing as they made out
and it is kept cool if you can cope with the EEEEEEEEEEE unless your lucky and get a good pump!

Then the price just hit the last nail in the coffin!

That's why AMD are in decline in the discrete gpu market and why after a hella long time ill be going back to nVidia.

Also that pic in OP is how i see nVidia lol. Joffery!

Parrot?

Not long ago i was the one saying AMD were far from done, that was then, this is now, its reached and passed a tipping point, they are now done.

I didn't say that, the other guy did, I didn't get what he was saying?

I thought he meant people saying AMD are doomed being parrots?

Dunno mate.

+1

Haha, me to !

So if Nvidia is Joffrey, AMD must be Tyrion.

Never count out the little guy !

I can see it now, in a couple of years time there will be an army of Pottsey-esque AMD fans, that rush in to defend a company that are no longer relevant in that particular computing area. :(

(This post is suppose to be humorous and in no way meant to be slanderous to Pottsey, I mean it only is the way that he is dedicated to Power VR even though they are no longer in the discrete GPU business.)

I think in time this world will be more enthusiast than it is today, more premium as the market shrinks with no competition.
PowerVR, 3DFX, AMD all consigned to the memory of the few.

Consoles will take over more completely.

intel is the undisputed king of the desktop GPU market.

nvidia is the king of the desktop discrete GPU market..

Well that depends on what your suggesting to be king means, if it just a numbers game then your quite right Intel has a much bigger army, but a fat lot of good it will do them, all those thousands of guys with swords and spears swarming all over the earth, just to be nuked from orbit but the much more superior NVidia behemoth discrete GPU. :D

Nvidia may well be King, but it's a kingdom where they only have one real threat to their throne, and not much of a threat at that.

Both the GPU and CPU main players need some serious competition, I hoped ARM would shake up the desktop CPU market but not as of yet alas.

I'd like to see Intel beef up their GPU's, they could be an interesting force for change in the GPU market were they to do so....

ARM don't make CPU's, ARM Holdings are an IP company, they sell IP which is then used by people who make CPU's

AMD will be using ARM for some of their Desktop CPU's in 2016.

Yeah I don't think we should be defending AMD, that's why I put up this thread. Call a spade a spade kinda thing. AMD need to do something, price cuts / bundles to spark more interest. The cards are good just to expensive in the face of cheaper (And faster) Nvidia alternatives.

With £50 price cuts, something like Fury X '£480' and Non X '£380' I could see them being much more attractive options. Having cards in stock available to buy would be better as well lol.
