Could anyone advise me on what to upgrade on this system please, Attached i have put some screenshots with rivatuner stats in the corner to show you cpu/gpu/ram usage.. CPU seems to be fine but GPU is at 100%, Im not even close to using the 16gb 2400mhz ram either. I dont think i could bottleneck a GPU with my Processor but seing as its 2nd gen could this be an issue? Im thinking about maybe a 980ti? or perhaps just a 980.

Thanks for any advice.

System:
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 3.4ghz
CPU cooler:
Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty-M professional Z77
Memory: 16GB DDR3 corsair vengance pro @2133mhz
GPU: MSI R9 290 4GB
PSU: SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold"
Monitor: Samsung 4k 28" U28D590D

for 4K no single card solution will get you decent fps on this game on ultra settings. I have gtx 980 in SLI clocked at 1520mhz core/ 8000mhz memory and i have to still switch off hairworks to get to 60fps at 4K ultra. Hairworks reduce fps by 10 or so. So i will say that you can go for gtx 970 sli or 390 xfire as minimum.

A 980.. LOL.

If you want one 4k card then a Fury X, 980ti or Titan X is the way to go. However the best I can muster on my Fury X is "high" with a mixture of other settings.

I'm waiting for Fury Nano for Crossfire X.

I think my next step will be a new PSU, then ill probably just bide my time untill the next gen cards come out.. How long we talking? haha!

thats y i suggested SLI or xfire. Even Titan X doesn't get to 60fps on ultra in titles like Witcher 3.

I don't get this 4K lark. The screenshots make the character models look dodgy, it brings out the worst in them. Might just be me, maybe I need a demo of this.

Just bought a Samsung Curved 60hz monitor and that sort of draws you into the game, it's the best upgrade I've had.

Witcher 3 on 1080P ULTRA (970 GTX) is flipping awesome, and more natural looking I think.

you really need to see a game in 4K in person to know the difference. The images posted above do not do the justice and you are still looking them on a 1080p panel :)

I think you need to play at 4k. Screenshots generally don't do it justice. I'm rerunning Dragon Age Inquisition and at times I'm just stopping and admiring how good some stuff looks :P I played it first time at 1440p on High, now I'm playing 4k on Ultra and it's a very noticeable improvement.

lol yes, never thought of that!

hmmm I've got a 970 GTX, would 2 of them run 4k or would you recommend something else.

Also, any specific screen you'd recommend?

Well I might just do this 4k lark, because I've got a few games to catch up on like Witcher 3 and I'd want to experience them at their best, preferably not in a Sli config, unless Sli is stable now.

It's a large investment mate, I'll warn you.
I bought my Samsung last year, like £500.. then I had to buy another 7970 to crossfire and it still didn't give a great experience, but there was nothing better till the Fury. So I've now picked up two Fury X's, which meant I needed a new PSU, so I went and picked up X99 mobo and 5820k while I was at it... Now I'm happily getting 60+ frames at 4k on ultra... over £2000 later -.-
