Right..I was asked if I would be interviewed at work regarding another employee. I agreed and was interviewed by the other employees line manager with another manager present taking notes in handwriting

I was sent typed up notes a day later but my testimony has been changed, I suspect in an effort to make it look worse for the other employee. I've contacted both line managers and pointed out the mistakes but neither have got back to me yet.

So my question is, is this illegal? Is there anything in employment law that says this is wrong?

they can't change your statement this is why you should take your own witness in with you.

I'm guessing you've refused to sign saying the notes are accurate?

If the notes are intended to reflect what you've said then they should be only signed off when you're happy with them and they should incorporate your corrections to make them accurate. It's probably also worth pointing out that if they're altering the notes and not going to amend them in line with what you've said then should this go to an employment tribunal they'll almost certainly have opened themselves up to a whole world of hurt along the unfair/constructive dismissal lines.

It would also be sensible to check your companies HR policies and should the interviewers not get back to you soon it could be a good idea to involve HR as they should get twitchy about policies not being followed (I'm presuming they don't have a policy which says that inaccurate testimony is ok).

Cheers guys, pretty much what I suspected. The managers concerned want to discipline a member of staff and my testimony is being used to do so. I emailed the managers who interviewed me yesterday with my concerns and received no response. I followed this up with an email last night, this time copying in an HR manager and oddly enough received a panicked reply almost immediately.

I would also email the line managers present at the interview to express your concern and print off the communication as a back-up. Verbal communication can be denied.

Haha if they don't make all your corrections tell the union rep who's representing the other worker so he can point out its lies
