Dressing your age....

Wear whatever the hell you want, and stuff anyone who calls you out on it! Some men wear suits, some wear trackies, some wear dresses, the way I see it, it doesn't impact my life in the slightest. I wear jeans, whatever t-shirt is top of the pile, and either docs or trainers, usually with a leather satchel if I've got something to carry. The only variation is formal occasions or the odd suited-and-booted night out.

Can't be doing with people that are so fickle as to judge your character based on your dress sense.

Indeed.

Wear what's been washed and laundered... :D

I like this thread. It's a who's who of ocuk members who are pushing middle aged but don't give a monkeys on other people's opinions about their fashion taste!
Comfort is the key gents!

So I'm 44 now and have started to feel uncomfortable with the way I dress - at the weekends typically jeans and T-Shirts with stuff like Fraggle Rock or Morph on the front.

You are dressing you're age, there's no point dressing the way older people dress just "because", you're dressed how your generation dresses :S

I'm 51 now and deliberately dress as old fashioned as possible, often in tweeds.

Up until a few years ago I dressed casually, but now having cultivated a handlebar moustache I actually enjoy striding out in a nice tweed three-piece suit, and it attracts quite a lot of positive comments.

I'm 27 and outside of the suits at work, I mostly where jogging bottoms / three quarters with a t-shirt / hoody depending on the whether. Just where whats comfortable, does that make me old?

Or a chav?

a chav :P

I walked past a bus stop the other day and someone said "he looks proper rough" as I was crossing the road.

made me feel awesome :D, not been in a fight since I was about 17/18 and wouldn't start trouble with anyone lol

I think the biggest thing if you wanna appear rough is.

wear some trainers that stand out.
wear jeans that are slightly long for you and slightly roomy not skin tight...
doesn't matter how tight your tshirt is as long as you aren't a twig
walk around like you own the place and swing your arms slightly more than what feels normal.

LOL :D Should have given them a friendly wave and seen their reaction!

It doesn't help that my receding hairline has accelerated and I have gone one all over on top with a slowly extending beard....Couple that with my dress sense and beanies and I probably look like a proper chav!

Damn stereotypes!

E-
Am I the only one who finds jeans uncomfortable? Wife has forced me to wear these chino things and I still dont like them!!

Also disagree with tight shirts, if you have moobs like jabba its not going to be a flattering look!

I'm 36 and wear whatever I like, shrug! I don't think I'm 'cool' or 'down with the kids' I just wear what I enjoy, if somebody thinks I'm too old for it then they're entitled to their opinion is all I can say. People worry too much about what others might think. You only live once, if you want to wear a My Little Pony t-shirt then do it.

Wear what ever you like. Ignore the boring lot that are telling you to stop wearing the fraggle rock stuff.

Fast approaching 40 and I wear whatever I find comfy. I'm not into brands and wear plain stuff. I even wear crocs around the house........ :-)

I am 46 and have changed my style a little recently. While I never wore graphic tshirts I have definitely change my style to be simpler, concentrating on classic items and moved the quality a little up market.

I tend to wear chinos or jeans (dark blue or light grey and not distressed), very often a shirt, a sports jacket (blazer) and leather shoes. I do occasionally wear a tshirt but they are plain. I very rarely wear trainers now and opt for either leather shoes, chukkas or casual shoes such as loafers.

I am increasingly finding the quality in shops, even higher end shops, not to be worth the money. I avoid obvious branding and logos. I have moved towards more classic items.

However the real key to dressing your age is to keep your body in shape. It doesn't matter whether you wear expensive clothes when you have a belly or look unkempt. You will still look an old wreck. Get fit and then buy clothes that fit or have them altered.

I hate polo shirts, there all made of the magical fabric that just sticks to my skin. They just feel naff.

(i am a delicate flower)
