If it was hot enough to burn through the sole of a shoe, you'd be able to smell it before you got anywhere near close enough to walk on it in the first place.

Hell, if the weather gets hot enough, you can smell tarmac or the sealcoat starting to melt before it's hot enough to burn through soles of shoes.
