I think my 780 is goosed as my machine refuses to boot with it connected (5 bios beeps and nothing, machine works fine with an old 9600GT that is slot powered) but I specifically bought a 6GB card as I have an Ultrawide monitor and wanted the extra VRAM. Sure most games don't use it but I was playing Shadows of Mordor (which is great) on Monday night and Afterburner was reporting high 5GB and sometimes even nudging over 6GB of VRAM usage with the HD texture pack installed. If I RMA the card I highly doubt there will be a 6GB 780 available and I'm worried about being 'fobbed off' with a lesser card. It was the White HOF OC edition too!

What card will I likely be offered? A 4GB 980? I want a 6Gb card but I doubt anyone could sanction a 980ti?!

I suppose I could have a PSU fault but it's a Superflower 650w Gold and everything else is working so far. Will know for definite when I get the card tested on a friends machine.

With a bit of luck they'll send you a G92 8800GTS, a whole 512mb of memory to play with :D

I'd say you'll get another 780 replacement, I don't think the stock is obsolete yet is it?

Tricky one - given its a relatively unique card they might try going down the partial refund route :( (which they will calculate at something pitiful), fobbing you off with a refurb regular 780 or maybe a 970 - you'd probably have to fight a bit to get a 980ti.

Worse case scenario is a 970, similar performance to a normal 780, but much worse memory than a 6GB one. Maybe a fair partial refund would be the best thing if you really value vram and would find the 970 and 980 Unacceptable. It's a shame the 6GB 780s are so rare. 390 8GB or 390X 8GB might be your best bet in terms of like for like performance and more than adequate vram. Actually the 390X would be quite an upgrade on the 780 as it's more on par with a Titan Black. Much more feasible than a dream replacement 980Ti.

It's not the 780 bit, it's the 6GB bit! They may try and give me a 3GB 780.

Also I'd rather stay green then go Red. Have had bad experiences with every Red card I've ever had.

How is a partial refund likely to be worked out? Warranty length divided by price paid?

I know you are part of the "Hate AMD" club but I have a 390X in my 2nd rig and it's a beast of a card for the price and it would be a boost up from a 780.

I understand having a preference because of previous problems you may have had with AMD. I have not had much luck with their older cards too. I found I didn't get on well with their software at all. My most recent AMD card (295x2) left me with a much better experience in terms of their software though. If it wasn't for the slow release of crossfire profiles with a few big games, (mainly Witcher 3) I would have stuck with it.

For single cards I think AMD are at a really good place though and I feel a 390 8GB, or if lucky 390X 8GB (quite a bit faster than a 6GB 780) would really be the best of a bad bunch (only two expensive modern NVIDIA cards 6GB+). It might not be perfect like a 980Ti, but I would imagine it's the less of two evils if a 3.5GB 970 is the other alternative. Just try to stress the replacement card needs to have a minimum of 6GB video memory.

That's what I'd be pressuring for, However that might get you a Mark 1 titan if they have any knocking around, If they do offer a 4 gb card you could cut your losses if it's a 980 but if it's a 970 explain that you went with the 6 gb model for 6 gb's and the 970 is just not gonna cut it, You might get lucky. They might even have a Titan B hanging around.

My question would be...

Do you really need a 6gb card if its only a 780? Surely you would run out of grunt before you needed that kind of VRAM anyways so even though a 980 would be less VRAM it would still be faster

KFA should be pretty good Miss and hopefully they will sort you out with something like a 980. Keep us informed please. I am always interested in what people get :)
