Hi guys

I can spend 2k on new PC. I will be playing games, streaming and doing other stuff at the same time. I want it to be future proof. I will buy second video card in couple of months. 1440p resolution.

What I will need :
Midi tower
Silence
Fast ssd
32gb ram
WC aio CPU
980ti
Skylake
4tb hdd for storage
Decent on board audio
Case fractal design Define S or something better
Premium Mechanical keyboard, brown switches, tkl or full if tkl is not possible
Wifi card
Win 10 usb

Mouse and optical drive not needed.

I would like to spend 2k max but I can increase it by couple hundreds.

This is what I'm thinking about:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2666 Memory
Storage: Intel 750 Series 400GB PCI-E Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ Video Card
Case: Fractal Design Define S w/Window ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM
Wireless Network Adapter: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter (£29.40

Roughly 1900 pounds.

I'm not sure about ram and motherboard. I know that Intel nvme is an overkill for this build but I can't resist ☺. So guys, is it possible to build something better?

Mine is similar to Stulid's, however it comes with an M.2 SSD which is equivalent to the Intel SSD you originally suggested. You can downgrade to a 256gb Samsung SM951 for around £150 cheaper I believe, or you can go with Stulid's option, but it's up to you whether the difference between M.2 and SATA is worth the £150 :p

Add your own WiFi card as OcUK do not have any reasonably priced ac cards.

The sound on the Gigabyte board is MASSIVELY better than the MSI.

but the m2 port is half the speed of every other brand of motherboard.

yes you could get an add in m2 pci-e card but I would rather use that space for a proper premium sound card which spending 2k on a pc should be a serious consideration over stock sound.

I never took sound into consideration, maybe I should, but I picked the MSI due to the M.2 slot. I believe if you are spending that much on an SSD you should be getting the full performance. It may not matter much in real world performance, but still.

Pretty much what P.B said to be honest.

Out of curiosity, is there a review on onboard sound at all? I'd like to do some reading before doing builds for people.

I have a Rampage IV Black edition which has dedicated headphone amp, features coming out of its ears..... but still don't find it as good as any of my old x-fi cards including the x-fi xtreme audio. Which is dirt cheap ie less then £20 second hand.

So if I would recommend going for either a creative z which awesome in my eyes or the equivalent asus card.

I didnt spec a m.2 SSD so no need to worry about that.

but why not when theres hardly any cost difference and the speed is in a different league

Have you seen the benchmarks ?

also joe has speced the Nvme edition which is the one to go for so I've heard.

What makes you say this ? all I've heard is good merits and considering moving from my x79 set up to x99 for very little gain apart from higher numbers lol

Its not the massive wow factor you expect over a decent normal SSD.

Adds (reduces) very little to level loading times or anything gaming related.

I just expect silly fast install times and when moving games about for modding everything would be instant.

The price difference between the 850 EVO 500GB and SM951 512GB is £134.

That money could be spent better elsewhere imo. An 850 EVO is still a good SSD.

Stulid and Joe! Thanks.

It's not what I originally wanted (skylake) but I read about it and now I know that x99 is the way to go.

I will get gigabyte motherboard as it has better audio. If I would like to get 16gb ram which ram should I choose? Also I don't know much about pci e lanes so could someone confirm that 980ti (sli in couple of months) and Intel 750 pci e ssd (or samsung 951) will run at full speed?
