The labour Leader thread...

You act as if this is a modern social phenomenon. The general public never favours war. It's one of the hardest, riskiest things for a politician to push for. It almost always ends their career. Hell even before WW1 if you had polled the UK you would have found most people would probably want us to ignore our obligations to Belgium and France.

Except that things have changed. Maggie taken us to war over the Falklands saved her government.

Looking at polls they were heading for a massive defeat but suddenly beating the Argies gave her a good majority again.

The risk there of course is if you lose....................

Like Mark Steel and thousands of others, I've been barred from voting in the leadership election as I don't "share Labour's values". I guess that, like most of the others who have been banned, I've been identified as likely to vote for Jeremy Corbyn.

Nice move, Mr Mandleson. Nice move. Don't like democracy? Them kill it with fire.

Anyone know where he lives? Hoping he bas a letter box as I'm desperate for a ****.

It was British territory... i think if Thatcher didn't go to war, it would have been the end of her party.

it always seemed strange that thatcher gets stick for the Falklands (now, not then) - what exactly was she supposed to do?? a foreign power invaded a british territory - to do anything other than defend them would be a disaster.

There's not many things I'll accept are to Maggie's credit - she was a terrible Prime Minister - but her actions on the Falklands were spot on.

I think this is terribly short-sighted from the Labour party. If Corbyn is seen to lose because they rigged the vote then it'll do huge damage to the base they rely on to campaign effectively and severely harm the relationship with the unions. If Corbyn wins then it simply sours the relationship between the party and potential future members and voters.

And if Corbyn is seen to win becasue of a rigged vote.

It is a lose lose situation, a terrible hangover from Miliband.

This is actually shocking. Liz Kendall hasn't a clue. How quite a few high profile labour members have supported her is anyone's guess. She clearly had no understanding of Israel -palestine, just trotting out soundbites she'd heard Tony Blair say. She also seems to have a track record of abstaining from votes and not actually having a position on anything

Without an effective opposition the Conservatives will have a free reign.

There hasn't been effective opposition for the last 5 years and this country hasn't fallen apart. I wish people stop being so dramatic and realise that we're all better off with a centre right government.

The Conservative Leadership Election has the potential to be equally fun. It's quite likely the winner will be PM, so I can't see any of the main candidates giving up without a fight.

lol seen similar outbursts from hardcore labour supporters I'm friends with or friends of friends on facebook - while neither would vote for Corbyn (one was intending on voting for Cooper) there are reasons why they could be identified as such.

What a sham.

The Conservatives are more Labour than Labour themselves.

You're forgetting that the left has been rigging public opinion for years with political correctness making it morally incorrect to disagree with them. This is no different.

Here you go. Incase you're wondering who he is he's one of the regular panelists on Radio 4's "News Quiz" programme which is allegedly a "satirical comedy show" i.e. an excuse for a bunch of BBC employed lefties to have a moan at the government.

I'm loving all of this :D

Labour is crumbling into oblivion LOL

This lot couldn't organise a ****-up in a brewery. Let in the world and its dog, have little or no vetting in place and then the sit back and watch as it gets destroyed by tactical voting. You couldn't make it up if you tried. :D
