Hrm... I think someone just tried to convert me!

I once had a job where i had to record some information from a taxi driver who had witnessed an incident. I turned up at his house, me in a suit, and him in his, well, yellow pants/speedos.

I was there about an hour and half during which he sat/lay in several different positions, had the occasional scratch 'down there' etc - but ever the professional i took the details, thanked him for his time and left - without shaking his hand.

I am a 6ft 2" guy as was this bloke, but he was a lot hairier - all over :(

Yes, taxi drivers are a strange breed.

You'll get there with enough of that there book reading and sceptical what-me-not.

Agnosticism covers all bases. ;)

I think I'm still drunk but wow, what an amazing end to a night out. I'm a magnet for interesting people. :D

A common misconception. Agnosticism refers to knowledge. So by saying you're agnostic about god, all you are saying is that you don't know anything. So in fact agnosticism covers nothing of any value.

If you're claiming to be an agnostic then you're also an atheist. Agnostics like atheists, do not accept the claim that a god exists and so are not theists and have to be by definition, atheist, as it's a binary proposition. Either there exists a god or there doesn't. There is no 3rd option of semi-existence. Atheism refers to belief. As belief is a subset of knowledge, the best way to label your self is as follows.

There are 4 true categories.

  1. Gnostic Theist. I know there is a god and I believe there is a god.
  2. Agnostic Theist. I don't know if there is a god but I believe there is a god.
  3. Gnostic Atheist. I know there is no god and I do not believe in a god.
  4. Agnostic Atheist. I don't know there is no god but I don't believe there is a god.

I'll bite. :) It's impossible to prove or disprove, but I've always felt that there must be something responsible for the creation of the universe. I just don't think it's a bloke with a beard, booming voice, beard and flowing gown. I think absolutely dismissing the possibility of a creator is pretty narrow minded but then that's just me.

Given the vastness of our universe, it's also highly likely that whatever is responsible (if anything) really doesn't care about us praying to it on a Sunday either.

Anyway, I need to shower and sort myself out. Feel like I spent the evening drinking fairy liquid and banging my head repeatedly against a wall. :(

Should have told him to repent as you left the cab then told him he'd burn in hell for charging too much.

Well there are other positions you can hold. From what you've just said, you sound like a Deist. A deist believes in a non-interventionist god. In other words, he showed up and created everything, then sodded off and hasn't been seen or heard from since. Deism was more common than it is today. For example, many of the Founding Fathers who drafted the American Constitution were Deists as Atheism seemed a bit of a stretch before Darwin came along and the advent of cosmological physics a little later.

Another position is Pantheism. Pantheists believe god is the universe and everything in it.

There are others like Polytheism. Hindu's today for example have lots of lovely gods to genuflect to :)

Depends on your beliefs, there's various different branches or sects if you like of Hinduism, so some may be more monotheistic than poly :)

Pantheism can tie into it as well if you believe everything to be God.

I am now running out of this thread. Hand grenade has been primed with pin pulled and deposited in popcorn bucket.
