Flamethrowers at the ready...

Someone told me to put conkers in the corners of the room and this scares spiders off as they mistake them as big spiders. Now I HATE spiders so thought I would give it a try a few years back and you know what, I have not seen a spider in my lounge since! I had loads, live in the countryside with an open fireplace so they used to come in often but seems the 3 conks are doing their job.....or am I being a ****?

Worked for me, too.

My aunty does this, and apparently it does work. I might start having to do the same, as last night I had to put out the biggest spider I've ever seen (aside from ones in videos of course).

When I was in Thailand in Dec 2013, outside of my hut for the week duration of my time at the beach there was a furry grey and yellow spider the size of my hand!

It never moved form it's web!

I woke up this morning to what I'd describe as a level 2 arachnid breach. Either side of the front door, low down on the walls, were two large garden spiders.

Breaking with protocol (engage arachnid in a fight to the death, preferably from a safe distance) I trapped them in a glass and chucked them outside. Lively little devils though, jumping around inside the glass like tramps on speed.

I fear that this is just the initial wave - a reconnaissance party. More will follow.

As I mentioned earlier: I have been raised as a god by my daddy long legs and, being good and humble minions, they go into battle against the house spider scourge on my behalf and leave their dessicated corpses as offerings to me around the house:

Have them spiders been encased in spider webs?

I just get my hoover, suck the buggers up and then set fire to my house. Expensive way of doing things but in each new house it takes them a little while to move inside.

if conkers really worked wouldn't you just put them near windows/doors ? why corners of rooms surely they still come in

It's sop for all spiders to reccy room corners with drones before they enter a room, though I suppose if you hung a conker off the lintel hanging in the doorframe it might be better than corners if it gets noticed.
