Hi,

Wondering if anyone has had these fans and what they think of them? Looking for some corsair fans for the h100i that are very quiet but still very efficient for the h100i, seen a couple of different SP120 fans, what ones are the best. Need to be compatible with corsair link too

I have 4 of these on an H100i.
On my old Asus P67 board linked to an Akasa 5 way PWM splitter they were near silent on idol when cooling a 2600K @ 4.5Ghz. On full load they were pretty good noise wise too.
However I've just moved to an EVGA X99 Micro2 motherboard and using the same PWM splitter setup, I cannot get the fans to run at less than full speed.
I'm reading various articles on the web that the SP120s have known issues when running on PWM splitters.
I've connected only 1x SP120 to the CPU header to see if this works ok on PWM and it did.
So now I'm looking to try 2 x 2 way splitters on 2 headers to see if that works better.
Nice fans, just be aware there can be issues when using PWM splitters with them!

Hi, Okay thanks for the heads up on that issue. But i think i should be fine as i only have two fans on mine, don't know whether to have the push/pull setup... is there a big difference in performance having the push pull compared to having two fans just pushing air into the radiator?

Also can you know control your fan speeds with corsair link, because i use custom curves so the hotter my CPU gets the faster the fans will spin on my custom settings.

Cheers

i wanted to quickly add that on of the stock fans makes a clicking noise, when its running it sometimes makes a clicking noise, if i push up onto the fan as they are setup for pull. the noise stops, so this was one reason for me buying a new set, but i would rather buy a new set that are even quieter that's why i saw these.

Did you notice any difference in performance between these and the stock ones?

I used them on a H100i, no problems with them, but I moved on to Alaska Piranhas.
As for using Corsair link, they should work fine, but I never used the program as it's as buggy as hell.
I used the settings in my bios for fan control, same as what link is supposed to do., but actually works!

Ahh yeah i've found it to be buggy too but once its configured i don't even open the software. Being honest i've not actually looked in gigabytes BIOS settings at fan speeds. Any idea if custom curves can be set?

Don't know why you would need to control the fan speed on the sp120's tbh, surprised you can hear them. I run 4 on full and they are super quiet. The corsair stock fans on the other hand are shockingly bad, mine are in the bin were they belong.

Okay, yeah i wouldn't know, i've been using the stock fans that come with the h100i for nearly a year now so i guess i will probably upgrade to the sp120 and see how they are. Would you recommend the performance ones or quiet/low noise ones.

OMG how on earth have you put up with the noise for that long? I turned my pc on with them in and im not kidding, they where binned within the next 5 minutes. They are all quiet the sp120s, but the quiet series are decent.

What these bad boys are what your on about?

I'm not too sure why i waited a year to be fair

SP120 Quiet Editions?
Crap.

I went back to the stock ones for my H100 within a day because, while they were much noisier, they cooled much better. I kept the stock fans for years afterward, finally re-using them as relays inside the case, since they were perfectly fine below 1,000rpm and only got turned up high when running everything else at full tilt anyway.

I eventually sucked it up and bought into Noctuas, and haven't looked back since.
The SP120 QE is a very quiet fan indeed... but the performance hit was too vast for my tastes.

Okay, thanks for the review ttaskmaster, do you know if they were the High Pressure, Low noise ones? or what ones were they as i just don't like the clicking coming from one of my fans, and they are quiet loud.

You have either Performance Edition or Quiet Edition - PE is high static pressure, QE is low noise.
The PE's probably say 'High Pressure, Low Noise' on the packaging, but the latter part is very often NOT the case!!!
The QEs are indeed nice and quiet, but the performance is crap.

I'd guess you have the QE, based on this shop page?

I'd suggest Noctua, Blacknoise NB eLoop, or EK Varder fans as alternatives.

Taskmaster- I would get the noctura ones but the brown and cream are horrible and I ant find any quiet dark brain and black noctua ones. If I get the performance ones in guessing the noise level will be quiet anyway if I only run them at half of there speed as I wouldn't be running them at max? This is what I'm thinking of doing?

Go to OCUK shop.
Search for 'REDUX'.
Purchase.
Enjoy!

They'd be fairly quiet - Most fans hush down below 1,000rpm.
But you'd still get better, quieter performance from other fans and if ever you have to turn them up... well, I could actually hear mine from 52yds away at the end of my garden, with the windows closed!

Depends how fussed you are over performance and noise.
