Looking at going away for a few days with someone I'm seeing and the only real criteria is that it's by the sea. It has to be south/south East really. I was thinking maybe Brighton but I don't really know the area so looking for hotel recommendations and places to drink/eat recommendations etc. Any help greatly appreciated. I guess a room per night up for £150 or something if that helps.
Thanks

Tripadvisor? It's less subjective than the advice you'll get on here. :D

cant stand Brighton - its only marginally better in terms of its tourist populace than Blackpool.

If you like fat gravy stained numpties marching up and down the pier, militant seagulls defecating on your head and a dirty beech then crack on.

Otherwise go elsewhere lol

Love this...looking to go away in the UK...but it has to be the south/south east. That's not the bloody UK then is it?! It's a very narrowly defined region of England!

I wouldn't go to Croydon by Sea (Brighton) it's a dump. Every nook and crannie sticks of stale urine and if it wasn't for the 24hr street cleaners you'd be wading your way through litter all the time.

Eastbourne is nice, Soverign Harbour is quite modern, Bournemouth is also nice if a bit further.

Broadstairs, Kent.
And visit the Hornby museum while you are there! ;)

Depending on budget but Channel Islands is typically excellent weather in September or early October.

If your budget was £150 a night you could stay in a pretty nice place!

It really depends what you're wanting to do. Eastbourne on the whole is much cleaner along the seafront, however, Brighton has a lot more things to do.

Brighton can be dirty in places (the hotels that seem to think they're 5* because the building is nice (yet run down)), but the Laines/Marina/Pier/Shopping area isn't really that bad. Brighton also has a vast selection of very good quality restaurants.

edit - try the holiday lettings on tripadvisor as well, they seem better prices than hotels and a lot more characteristic!

Thanks all for the replies :)

Expand your range slightly and look at Salcombe. There's some super nice hotels for a dirty break away and it's very secluded.

Didn't even think/know they did spa get away/retreats so I think that's what I'm looking for now is a spa get away, that place looks amazing but it's about 4-5 hours away which is a little too far :(

Dorset? The girlfriend and I went and stayed in Corfe Castle a couple of years ago, it was good fun.

That said, I've never understood how British hotels get away with charging so much. Once you factor that in with the horrendous train prices, you may as well fly to somewhere that will actually be, you know, sunny.
