mkv, wav etc to vob converters?

Can anyone recommend a good free file converter for converting video files to vob format for burning onto dvd? The only ones I can find seem not to be free and I'm in no position to be buying software right now?

Not sure what you're trying to do exactly but freemake video converter can convert mkv etc to 'dvd' which should be what you're after I would guess, I can't say I've ever had to convert a video to dvd as everything I have can play digital formats like mkv so can't say 100%.

Personally, I'd just only use a player that can handle network/usb devices, DVD is old hat.

It is but when I'm wanting to put things on DVD for my old mum, that's what I need
