Thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Looks like it'll be the Alpha. My wife thinks the A5 is too big (she has small hands) and the Alpha is within 1 or 2mm of her current phone (HTC One S.)

Can get the silver one SIM free and unlocked (her choice of colour, "something different for a change") for £230 with free delivery and 3% cashback, so not too bad.

I've had one for about 2 weeks. Very pleased with it so far. Again, I paid about £230 for mine.

I'd highly recommend the official 2500 MAH battery upgrade kit. As well as improving the capacity, it takes the back cover flush with the camera. It's only slightly thicker and makes it a nicer phone to handle IMO.

Looks like Samsung are going to keep the Android version on the Alpha more up to date even than the A5, so decision made. Plus I can get it in silver (the colour my wife wants "for a change") for £230 like Uriel. So - sorted, ordering as soon as I get permission.

Thanks all.

Didnt even know about that. Tempted to order a Galaxy Alpha and get rid of the Edge :p

Brilliant little phone had mine just over a week now, can't fault it really battery life for me is good even with the stock battery, get over a day out of it with average use.

The simfree version is still on Kitkat 4.4.4 which is another bonus. :), hopefully they skip 5.0.2 that the carriers have & go straight to 5.1.1.

For the price it going for now it well worth getting one, it's quicker than the S5 & keeps up with the Note 4 on some test's aswell.

Does anyone have a link to the official extended battery pack accessory as I'm interested in getting this phone.

Great phone very responsive the camera is good and the size is perfect build quality is great, the only down side is the speaker if you want to play music without headphones.

I don't use the speaker much for music but I do use it regularly for navigation. It's clear but lacks any bass and is maybe a bit treble heavy. Female vocals in particular often have some sibilence. Can't complain about the volume or clarity though.

Probably won't use it for music on speaker much either. Cast to the tv or surround system for that. For navigation we use my One M8. Those Boomsound speakers make it easy to hear in the car.

Will there be a Galaxy Alpha 2?

Nope Samsung discontinued the Alpha after only a few months & replaced it with the A series.

Shame really an Alpha 2 with an Exynos 7420 & a 4.7" 1080p screen & 3GB of ram would destroy both the S6 & Note 5 in benchmarks.

The S6 mini could be the closest we get to seeing a high end compact smartphone from Samsung, if they stick a Snapdragon 808 in it that is which
it rumored to have, but I'm betting it more likely be the Snapdragon 615.
