Looking to get away for a few days in the UK

Dorset? The girlfriend and I went and stayed in Corfe Castle a couple of years ago, it was good fun.

That said, I've never understood how British hotels get away with charging so much. Once you factor that in with the horrendous train prices, you may as well fly to somewhere that will actually be, you know, sunny.

This. When ive looked at a weekend away in the uk and come up with £500 to £600 and then gone to Eastern Europe for under £200 and spent less there as well, I just cant see the point.

Plus quite often the travel time is less flying than us driving or train in the uk.

The only coastal town I've liked was Weymouth, Brighton is a dump, I.O.W. is nice but pretty quiet this time of year, Weston is rubbish, Great Yarmouth has a nice beach but everything else is meh.

I quite like Brighton. I probably wouldn't go "looking to get away for a few days", but I love going down there with a few mates or for a day trip with my girlfriend. I'm probably setting myself up for something here, but it also reminds my girlfriend of home back in Seattle.

Try the north Norfolk coast - very nice, lovely beaches and quite quiet out once the school holidays have finished.

At the other end of the country, we spent a few days up in Northumberland a couple of years ago. Equally pleasant, lovely beaches and walks.

Depends what you want from your holiday really but the coast between Swanage and Weymouth is very beautiful (Durdle Door, Lulworth etc) Bit shy of places to stay though and if the weather is minging there isn't a lot to do.

Definitely this! The old town is lovely, and the waterfront is gorgeous, too. There is something for everyone, and it's very easy to get around in, insofar as you don't need to drive anywhere once you're there. The smugglers caves are pretty awesome, too!

Don't go to Hastings for more than a day lol, it's worse than Brighton for cleanliness and most is a pretty rough area. I live in Eastbourne and while it is clean here and looks nice, I wouldn't say there is much to do really (but don't know if that is just because I live here and am used to it all).
