US TV journalists shot dead on air

I am not pro-gun at all, but it must be remembered that there is very little danger involved in sensible, responsible and careful gun ownership and a huge amount of people in North America own firearms and never have any negative incidents whatsoever.

Sadly, not everyone is sensible, responsible or careful.

or because of a massive gun lobby/retarded republicans, appropriate checks on gun owners aren't carried out and any nutter can buy a glock with their captain crunch at walmart.

The US is completely different to the UK, they will never ban guns, it's not even worth debating - trust me I've tried

Pretty sure it's quicker for me to go and buy a gun than it would for Subway to make me a sandwich.

The only thing that seems to have any sort of restriction are silencers and it's just completely mental that you can buy them.

I don't dispute that the US is a more violent place than the UK - it always has been and it always will be imo.

if you remove murders (overwhelmingly committed with firearms) then the US isn't actually

the UK is one of the most violent places in the western world, in particular Scotland is.... if you look at all other violent crimes apart from murders

Seen both vids in one side by side and synced up and god they are grim.

America does need to sort its gun ownership out but it will never happen. I dare say the "anti's" in the UK will try and use this and every other American shooting to screw over the British shooting scene even more.

Holy ****, the POV video is just horrifying!

I agree. He walks right up to them with the gun up in the aim and nobody notices, even though he's clearly in the peripheral vision of the female reporter (I guess she's focusing on the interview) then backs off for a few seconds before opening fire.

I thought there would have been more people aroung, maybe a guy with a big mike on a stick or a producer or something, it was going out live and the killer was there for some time in plain view brandishing a pistol without being challenged.

Why on earth would you remove murders when looking at rates of violence? Also you're assuming that if firearms weren't available then no violence would occur.

I'm not saying the police should never shoot anyone, I'm questioning the idea that police are trained to keep pumping bullets into their target until they stop moving on the notion it's better to be safe than sorry.

So are the public. Anyone who's given a permit to carry has to go thru training, and part of that training is shoot to kill.. NEVER shoot to maim.

Double tap in center mass... If they're still coming at you, put two more in 'em ! and so on..

The point being, you're only supposed to shoot someone if you or someone else's life is in a life threatening situation.

Yes the easy access to guns works against people when nut jobs are able to arm themselves, but also works for others, when the not so nut jobs are all at equal protection. Women and the elderly as an example, against nut jobs.

Such a shame, RIP to the two news reporters. Sadly it won't make any difference in the long-term though, America's love of firearms (particularly in the southern states) is too entrenched. It doesn't help that the Supreme Court have repeatedly reaffirmed the Second Amendment in recent years. Even in the unlikely event that Congress passed some gun control legislation it would probably end up being declared unconstitutional by the courts.
