Do you ever consider things are for a reason or do you believe you make your own luck?

Every day I seem to wake up and life be a challenge!

Don't get me wrong - I love that! I've been given the opportunity of going from a boring job back into college and uni to do something to help people more unfortunate than myself.

Guess I'm having a night of reflection as I can't do a lot due to waiting for college to start, waiting for solicitors to follow legal process over an accident (where a car knocked me of pushbike 3 weeks ago) and I'm struggling to do anything due to my injuries as my back is playing me up from it. Doctors again tomorrow for more investigation....

It's a bit of both.

Luck doesn't really exist. You can't quantify it. Good and bad things happen to people, some of it's their own creation.... others not.

Making your own "luck" is often an illusion driven by hard work and effort.

You couldn't have said a truer word, no such thing as luck, go and talk to a bookie they will tell you that better than most.

Agreed.

Was I "lucky" to get where I am now while my old colleagues are still stuck in the same jobs they were 15 years ago? Or was it just I put in the effort and graft to go back to Uni, get my Honours Degree and hunt down a good job? While they just didn't.

luck is something you possess retrospectively

chance is what you're exposed to

you have some, but not complete, control over chance events in your life

Good and bad things happen to people,
In vastly different quantities, therefore 'luck' is just being ahead of the curve of probability.

Being born in a modern western nations with healthcare, education & an ample supply of food & housing is incredibly lucky if you look globally. We then experience other tiers of luck, being born intelligent, free from disease, childhood free of abuse & having the right role models (or at least the right conditions) required for us to succeed.

While you may not like the term 'luck' we are all the beneficiaries or victims of events we had little to no control over. The ability to work hard & put in effort are in themselves the results of prior causes you likely also had no control over.

Sometimes I feel things are set out and the jigsaw seems to come together all at the right moment. However this could just be planning and managing my life.

Your lack of planning does not equal and emergency on my part <<< I have this on my wall at work.

No i dont believe things happen for a "reason" that would suggest that for some part you follow a predetermined course through life.

theres no "luck" just what happens, its up to you to make the most of the situations put in front of you.

Was it Gary Player (golfer) who said, "I don't believe in luck, but the more I practice the luckier I get".
