I've recently started a Gofundme page with a view to hopefully raising enough money to pay for specialist treatment in regards to my clinical depression, treatment you can't get on the NHS.

Somehow the ex partners family have found my page and are harassing me with offensive messages, making all kinds of accusations about how I supposedly treated my kids, accusing me of things I supposedly did against my ex partner etc and generally being overly offensive and insulting. I won't post a link as it is full of swear words and not family friendly content.

This is not the first time I've been harassed by them on the internet, getting it through Facebook and various other social media sites over the past few years and I'm quite frankly sick of it.

When I had a solicitor I was told I could get a cease and desist letter done, however I don't have an address to send it too.

Legally what are my options?

The point is this keep reoccurring and I shouldn't have to keep closing accounts, social media pages and even blogs because these people want to have a go.

reply telling him to stop contacting you or you will call the police, if there is any more contact call the police they give them a pin notice end of story.

Dont do that, tell them to stop harassing you, you don't want any contact and if they carry on you will contact the police. the next time they post call the police and they will send them a warning, any contact after that they will arrest them and charge them.
this is all you need to do.

And the police are going to do what? Nothing. Get some ******* and stop ******* around. The police have better things to deal with.

It must be very stressful to read that type of abuse online and it is perfectly normal to be upset about it. These things are especially upsetting if you are not at the top of your game and working stuff out.

See if for what it is, childish BS. Close the accounts, don't respond. You can live without social media. Move on. The best revenge is to forget about it and lead a good life.

I am grateful for the advise guys, I have disabled comments under the advisement of gofundme customer services and have added an update that any further messages or comments in the future of the same sort will be reported to the police.

Have you considered taking a short break from making money via internet charity? It's always a contentious issue.

personally i would have not disabled comments, but inform the police of harassment, this is one thing CID will get involved( they love it) because its easy and fast to get an arrest.

Police isn't all this against the malicious communications act? Like all the twitter trolls that got jail time?

To anyone that says delete facebook etc, no one should have to stop doing something because of bullying. You shouldn't have to stop going somewhere in real life because of other people's behaviour so why is that different online.

Vader, screenshot messages, create a time line of events, including any responses you send (keep them polite, no threatening etc) and then when you have a few go to the police. LOG EVERYTHING! The police do act on this kind of thing and standing up for yourself and not letting them bully you will help with your self esteem etc.

EDIT: Surely a cease and desist letter can be sent electronically, email, facebook etc. You'd have proof it was delivered, I can't see the medium on which it is delivered should matter. Plus, check phone books online etc, it's not that hard to track people down :)
