Best 980 ti card?

The Zotac AMP fan problem has been acknowledged by Zotac, and they're working on a bios update to fix it.

The problem is apparently electrical interference causing the fan controller to mistakenly think the temps have momentarily changed drastically.

Surprised that problem got past their QA.

If that's the case then in all likelihood a bios update won't fix it. I've seen user reviews say that zotac has sent them bios updates and it did nothing. Electrical interference would suggest its something at the hardware level that needs looked at, maybe some kind of insulation needs added somewhere, can't see a bios flash being able to resolve it.

A bios update could fix it as it would instruct the card how to operate properly.

If it only happens to some cards then it is a hardware issue.

Just to be clear this is only the Zotac AMP! Edition, not the Extreme. And most cards can suffer from things like coil wind problems etc. This incident doesn't reflect the quality of Zotac products, they wouldn't offer 5 years warranty(which no other company does) if they weren't confident in the quality of their products.

A simple bios update will solve the AMP! vanilla problem I'm 99.9% sure.

Why? Why Watercool it? It runs perfectly as it is.

EDIT: + EVGA only offers 3 years warranty.

Last time I looked Zotac warranty is void if/when you remove the stock cooler. You might get away with it only if Zotac don't use warranty/seals stickers.

I can only speak from personal experience but the EVGA customer service is great. The warranty is transferable so if you later decide to sell the card it will hold a little more value.

Watercooling is fun, it looks good and if your card is power/volt limited it can help a fair bit :)

If pushing for max clocks I'd say the best Ti out there at the moment is the EVGA Kingpin. Ridiculously expensive though.

I don't mess with what the techs @ Zotac have done with their cooling system for the Extreme, it is amazing as it is. The OP question is, what is the fastest 980ti and I just answered, he didn't mention water cooling. I would never mess with what I have, it is overclocked and professionals designed a helluva good cooling system for a very fast card(that you can overclock).

Looks good value, but it is certainly no where near the best.

Gets the top pick on a lot of reviews because it is a good balance of noise vs performance.
It's the quietest of them all, remains cool, is about in the middle in terms of "out of the box" performance and can overclock just as well as the others. Mine boosts to 1316 out of the box. Not tired clocking it yet

Might not be the fastest but it runs cool and is seriously quite I think looking at the reviews it is one of the quietest although seems to vary from review to review but I cant hear mine over my case fans and no coil whine, mine boosts to 1364 and overclocks to around 1480 which while not the best OC isn't to bad either :D

Then for the price of the card then makes it possibly the best value for money.

I had a MSI 6G and was unimpressed with the temps i was getting at stock, first time I ever RMAd a card. Maybe I'm just used to G1 coolers so expect to not get near that 80C mark.

Anyway i spent aaages deciding what to get instead and finally ordered myself a palit. Its arriving today! Will update with my thoughts if I remember to. Everything I read about it though seems to give off its the best value Ti. Also on weekly deal atm :)

Thanks for all your input guys...it took me ages to decide but went with the Amp extreme.
That seems to be the fastest, it was that or the g1.

Wanted it to arrive tomorrow but because I have fat fingers I tapped next day free shipping instead of sat delivery. Phoned up ocuk and chap on the phone has changed it free of charge. :)

I have a 730 atm as sold my 970 so using a 1gb gpu to play arma 3 in meantime

Make sure your case can take it! It's bigger in every dimension than the G1 and was a tight fit inside my case. I thought it wasn't going to fit until I managed to get the right angle to squeeze it in.

The three slot height makes it tricky to rotate into position if there's not a lot of room.

Absolute beast of a performer though, noticeably faster than the G1 I had and runs 10 degrees cooler.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the strix yet, looks good, has no sag, runs really quiet under load. :)

Does the Strix still have the ridiculous price tag? It was something like £630 when I checked.
