I bought the Powercolor 390 that was on special a few weeks ago. I have it connected up to a 1440p display but anytime I play BF4 or the Black Ops Beta it seems as if the fans ramp up and it becomes really noisy.

The temperatures never seem to go any higher than 70 though.

I was just wondering if this is normal for this card?

Yes, that is normal. The card "should" go into sleep mode as such when just on desktop/browsing but when you fire up a game, the GPU starts to work and this makes it hot, which makes the fan work to keep it cool.

I had to double check who made the thread, as I was expecting someone else :D

If the noise bothers you, you can setup a custom fan profile in afterburner, but obviously if you slow the fan down it will run hotter.

Thank's, I think haha. I do know why it gets hot but its like twice as loud as my 7950.

Would definitely use afterburner to set up a custom fan profile to your liking.

Ill do this.

Could anyone tell me what a average temperature is for this card or a 390 in general when gaming.

Powercolor fans are a bit crude, they do sound like a combine harvester at 60%

They are quiet at 50%, setup an MSI fan curve to run 55% at 80c.

Thats spot on to when I notice them 60%, also my girlfriend in another room (with the door open) notices the noise.

Is 80c an aacceptable (safe) temperature.
