Hi folks..

Need to price a new build for my brother! Its for the uses as above in the title.

My budget is 1500.

I need the following:

CPU
Mobo
GPU
RAM
HDD
SSD
Case

I have everything else (psu/monitor/sound)

I assume i7 and x99 is the best? I am not really up to date with mobo/cpu sockets.. is x99 ddr4 only?

I also assume 980ti would be best?

Many thanks in advance!

haha thanks for the responses guys!

I have thrown another scenario into the mix..

I have a z97 Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SOC Force motherboard here still sealed.

I assume if I went that route the best cpu for z97 is the 4790k?

So the question is ... just how much better is the 5820k and x99 than the 4790k and z97 for 2d/3d animation and rendering?

Is it worth the extra money on the mobo/ddr4?

If it's properly threaded animation and rendering software then the X99 will be considerably faster (anything from 10-30% depending on the situation and overclock).

That's not to say that the 4790k is bad - it'll rip through renders pretty damned fast itself, it just depends on how big your renders are, how long you expect them to take and therefore if you think the time savings are worth the extra initial outlay.

To be honest i have to spend the full 1500.. so it wasnt about saving money..it was more if the money saved could be better used i.e titan x or sli 980tis xD

the system is for my brother starting university so i am unsure to be quite honest on the levels of rendering

Titan or SLI will only help with gaming. If you're rendering and using a high end consumer CPU then a 970 is pretty much the limit of where the GPU is useful. If you want to take advantage of better GPUs for rendering then you'll need something like a dual Xeon system and a raid array to keep up with them.

For university a 4790k will do, trust me I've been there done that ;)

The saved money can probably be put to other use at university ;)

Let us know what final spec you come up with.

Hi guys!

Thought id share my final order:

4790k
gigabyte z97 soc-force mobo
EVGA Titan X !! :D:D:D
32gb crucial RAM
1tb samsung evo ssd
2tb HDD for videos/music/files
1000watt OCZ gold psu.

Hopefully this will last a me a while.. and can always add a second titan x further down.
