Hi Guys

Since the launch of the FQ121WC, a fan built to my own specification and requirements based on feedback from the community here and aimed at a price point that sales trends from you as customers dictated to be the best price point for a performance fan, I have been inundated with people requesting proper reviews of the fan.

I didn't just want to send this to a media site who are unable to test properly or perhaps wouldn't understand the point in this fan by comparing them to the EKWB Vardar or Corsair SP1 fans.

Instead I was approached by vsg28, a forum member here who lives in the USA. He was keen to add our fans to his testing and given the amount of 'specialist' fans he has tested it made perfect sense to send the fans to someone who understood the product.

He has done a very in depth review of them and tested to a far higher degree of accuracy than many other tech sites.

The results are great, especially as this fan is essentially the result of me messing around with radiators and saying, "hey, this fan is pretty decent, I wonder what would happen if it wasn't PWM... or blue... "

Please take some time to check out the review and leave your comments as I know it would be appreciated by myself and vsg28

I would also like to thank vsg28 for taking the time to review this product.

Watercooling enthusiasts have typically been left with slim choices when picking a suitable fan for their projects. Specialist cooling fans developed for Liquid Cooling tend to have a significant price tag associated with them and make adding multiple fans to large projects being

The FQ121WC fan from SilverStone sets a brilliant baseline for Liquid Cooling performance featuring high quality components and impressive specifications at a great price point. We have worked with Silverstone to produce a more focussed product that is entirely aimed at Watercooling, Performance and Hardware Enthusiasts that doesn't break the bank.

Not only is the FQ121WC perfect for bespoke liquid cooled system projects, but it makes a worthy upgrade for AIO Liquid Cooler users.

A number of small but significant changes were made to the product to refine it and make it a real prospect for people looking for exceptional performance at a wallet friendly price.

The FQ121WC is completely black with minimal stickers and branding to ensure that hardware modders have a great base for painting and customisation. The fan blades can be easily removed from the fan motor and the blades are made from the same high quality PBT plastic that the FQ121 fan it derives from. This ensures a solid and premium product feel as well as being hardwearing and durable.

The PWM feature from the original fan has been removed in favour of a 3 pin connector. This change was made to be compatible with fan control units and smart controllers such as the Aqua Computer Aquaero. This fan is designed to be used with fan controllers to give you the best performance and speed/noise output.

The Cable of the FQ121WC is flat to ensure that cable management is easy and that cables can be layered on top of each other in tight spaces when the fans are placed next to eachother on watercooling radiators.
The cable and connector are both black to ensure a stealth and uniform appearance.

I bought 2 x 3-packs of FQ-121 PWM.
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-018-SV
I had 2 x FQ-121WC 3-pin from an OcUK Techlabs Kraken G10 bundle:

I like these fans and I've already detailed on how I'm using them:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=28481759&postcount=5

Only thing I'd point out is that on the box of the blue/white fans it says 25mm thick. I've got six boxes stating the same and when I measure the fan its 15mm also the black 3-pin version is the same.

The black ones do have an excellent fan curve. In Gigabyte SIV its telling me@
30% workload RPM 705
100% workload RPM 1772
and the 2nd fan running off another mobo header:
30% workload RPM 724
100% workload PRM 1880

One PWM version is connected to my primary CPU fan header and its limited from going too slow by the BIOS (I know because I used to have a 2nd on the CPUopt header and it could run lower RPM).
@ 0% workload RPM 1006
100% workload RPM 1709

Its a good thing my Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 5 doesn't care if I connect a 3-pin dc fan or a PWM fan.

I used to have fans which at 12v were, from where my PC is located in a kind of closet, inaudible. I wanted to get fans which were worthy of speed control, and these are it. I've got 5 of the PWM variety controlled via my GPU fan header + a fw91 for the VRM on the G10 bracket and they are quiet for the most part. I've adjusted the fan curve in my 280x's bios to go to 100% when GPU temp is 60'c and while gaming I can't hear them. If the pc wasn't in the closet it would be a different story. I'm not sure if I edited the 280x bios for a lower minimum if it would result in slower fan speed. My pc has a floor noise which is not due to these fans, must be either the PSU or old Antec P180 case fans.

I bought one as well as they were so cheap!

Do yours have an apparent buzz from the motor at full RPM as well? Certainly not quiet!

The buzz doesn't seem to be apparent when mounted on the front, I'll have to note this in the review I'll be posting on the forum shortly. You can still hear that the motor isn't the quietest of things.

You'll have to excuse the quality, also isn't really that dusty!

I might have to do another video showing the fan on its own, which is when I heard the buzzing. Was too lazy at the time to unscrew and disconnect, as the cabling is on the right side and I have to use some force to put the side panel back on!

I have 8 of these. Never noticed any buzz when orientated in any way.

Very good fans for the money, especially when they are £4 a pot.

Yeah it seems when mounted, the buzz is somewhat dampened by the case. Not bad if you mind a bit of noise (full RPM) but personally I'd go for something quiet in the first place, rather than undervolting fans and limiting their performance.
