This cropped up on Twitter today! I'm very excited about the concept, it's about time that a decent hardware-keyboard Android phone shows up!

Current specs are rumored to be 5.4" 1440p with curved glass, 3GB RAM, Snapdragon 808, SD slot, 3,000+mAh

I wonder if releasing a decent device running Android (instead of BBs OS of their own) can pull Blackberrys profits back into the black.

Personally I've moved on to using swipe keyboards, so I don't really see the point in a physical keyboard, but having said that, I do kind of like this and out of the main underdogs of the smartphone world (Blackberry and Windows), I'm rooting for Blackberry despite never having used one. They seem to be making good decisions in trying to maintain/grow their userbase.

I'd buy this in a shot if it ran OS10; last thing we need is less choice...
The rumor is that Blackberry are planning on launching Android an BB.OS versions.

I'd be on it like a car bonnet if true, however the sensible bloke in me says this is bullpoo.

That's what I'm worried about too, there have been rumors of similar devices before which never came to be, however, there are now other leaked videos;

Some keen-eyed chappie on Twitterer pointed out that the keyboards in the two videos are subtly different, one of them has the "cascade" symbol that apparently has something to do with BB.OS10, so maybe they really are prepping two versions?

I think the world has moved on. For instance, my wife has a smartphone that she likes because it's physically quite small and not a giant screen. When I want to type with my bigger fingers, I just turn it landscape and I get a bigger keyboard that's more comfortable to hold with a wide device rather than a long one. If this new BB can't do a simple and now standard thing of turning sideways to get a more comfortable form-factor and keyboard then who will want it? If it can do it on the screen (don't see why not) then why buy the versions with a keyboard?

BB loves the keyboard because it's their unique selling point, but the majority of people have moved on. BB might as well be putting cassette decks in cars or floppy drives in PC. Better solutions have been around and accepted by the public for years now.

However, +1 for going android, it's also one of those things that has surpassed what BB used to make themselves.

I'd rather have a physical portrait keyboard than rotate to have a keyboard that takes up 90% of the screen and then not be able to see what it was I was writing to begin with!

As a current BB10 user with a Passport this phone is 100% my next phone. However if they launch a BB10 and an Android verison I will really struggle to choose. BB10 is simply a better operating system as a base; gestures and multitasking, email/text/etc management, etc, it's wonderful, but some Android apps on it are a pain in the ass as it does not have Google Play Services.

Supposedly the Android device will be customised to include things like the Blackberry Hub, and I pray to god it comes with the swipe and peak gestures, as then I'll likely grab that. Will be sad to see the back of BB10 if it comes to it though, it makes iOS and Android feel so poorly designed when you get used to it.

100% getting bought if true and the new images give me a little more hope. Soo miss the keyboard of my old Milestone 2!

Leaked images showing BB style 'active frame' multitasking which is a godsend as it's miles better than the android implementation. Fingers crossed they have peak and flow baked in from BB10, peak is literally the best feature when combined with the hub.

Getting quite excited about this, even though I dearly love my Passport.

Motorola Milestone was my first Android phone (and it replaced an old and very loved Nokia E61!), but it got stolen as I was walking home from a boozy night out :(
I mourned for that phone, I loved it so very much.

I'm not familiar with them, what do they do?

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen while in an app without letting go and you will see your notification types and the amounts of them on the left of the screen. Swipe up and then right in an inverted L shape and you will 'peak' at the hub and be able to see the message titles etc from different notifications. Let go and you will be dumped into the hub to deal with them. It's literally aeons ahead of any other notification management system and is what really makes BB10 a step ahead when it comes to getting things done

BB10 advert showing how it works. It's just so, so much better. BB10 is far, far from janky and pretty much anyone who gives it the light of day and doesn't base their opinion on app coverage will have to concede that some parts of it are simply better for the end user than Android or iOS.
