Gaming build (£2k - 2.5k budget)

Hello,

My GPU is brown bread so it's time to replace it and all the other components, because, why not?

I've had my eye on the EVGA 980 Ti Hybrid, two of them, but I'd take something else like the Zotac AMP since it's saving ~£200. If, for whatever reason, you value the AMP or like-card over the hybrid then throw in some nice fans.

I quite fancy the Asus ROG Swift as well. I'd been toying with the idea of 4k but Acer...

Red and black theme would be preferable since everything in my room is either red, black, or magnolia.

"Budget" as title states but given the two EVGA cards are half the budget I'd be willing to bump it up to £3000 so not to skimp on the other parts.

I need your help to fill in the rest of the case, plus the case itself.

I need everything barring OS, storage drives, keyboard, etc.

I think that covers it.

Thanks,

Mikchi

Edit: I want an AIO for the CPU. And some thermal gunk (mine's is somewhere in the garage).

For what are you going to be using this rig? Games, obviously, but what else besides?

What do you have in the way of SSDs, because I can see a recommendation for a 1 TB SSD.

If you're going the hybrid route, plus an AIO cooler for the CPU, why not go the whole hog and do a proper fluid cooling setup?

With your budget, I'm thinking along the lines of X99, i7-5960, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, 21:9 3440x1440 monitor, 2x 980 Ti.

I can't wait for someone to spec this haha. What is this going to mainly used for? Im guessing gaming especially with the idea of the ROG swift?

Gaming only. That, and the basic computer use (browsing, etc.) when not playing.

As mentioned above, mainly just games.

I've only got a little 240GB SSD that I've had for years. OCZ Agility 3 I think it is. I had thought of the Intel 1.2TB PCIe SSD but I've still got 50GB free on my SSD and 146GB free on my HDD. My download speed is good enough that I can rotate games on Steam so I just uninstall games I no longer play. Plus downloading 50GB in an hour I won't have a long wait to download/install a game I want to play.

RE liquid cooling: Never done it. Never built my own PC for that matter. I've no confidence I'd be able to build a leak-proof loop so I can see my hardware swimming in liquid when I fire it up.

I honestly don't have the desk real estate for a 34" monitor. I have a 22" and a 24" at the moment, and even with the 22" at about a ~35 degree angle facing me, I have about 5 inches of space until something is hanging over the edge. With the way my room is set up I really can't afford a wider desk, and switching my room around isn't an option.

Wouldn't he be better off with 2x 8 GB RAM? And an i7-5930 for the extra PCIe lanes?

And since you're not going for the hybrid GPUs, I'll recommend the Silverstone FT05 or FT02 cases instead, and change the CPU cooler to a 120mm or 180mm AIO.

X99 uses quad channel RAM so four sticks > two.

A smaller AIO for a larger tdp chip?

You don't fancy the hybrids, Stulid?

I don't know if I want the Samsung SSD, at least not now while I've still got disk space free.

How are the stock fans on the case? Would it be worth buying other fans to replace them?

TBH a single 980ti will run a single 1440P Swift monitor absolutely spot on.

Why wouldnt you wanyt an SSD? they are quicker than a mechanical drive by miles and add a "quickness or responsiveness" that a HDD cant.

Case fans are al right.

Echoing what stulid said, an SSD is really a must these days. Also they won't deteriorate in terms of speed/responsiveness like a HDD does either.

I only recently made the jump and now using any computer with the OS on HDD really is painful.

You've got a point about a single card. I could get a single one just now, buy another at a later date when high hz 4k monitors come out.

No worries.

Urgh, I'm in a pickle. On one side I want to wait for the hybrids being in stock, the other side wants to order this **** now.

I'll just get the two 980s when I buy, consider it 'future proofing' for when better monitors appear.

How about a single 980ti now and swap it out or add a 2nd card when/if a better monitor comes out, maybe Nvidias Pascal will be out by then.

100% get a SSD, by far the most noticeable upgrade i've ever had. Granted not in the gaming sense but the while snappiness of everything is such a great thing. When i use machines without im like WTF is this!!!

The hybrids will be cool so maybe go for the one TI now? If your anything like me you will order this ASAP :D

You guys are trolling me now :|

I'll be patient. I'll wait until the now 'release' date for the hybrids, if it rolls over to a later date then I'll just get an air cooled card

Only 5 more days to wait, can't be hard, right?
