Right guys I'm in the market for a NAS

Budget is around £400 but I could go a little higher if need be

I'd like that budget to fit 3x 2TB NAS drives.

I'd like the NAS to be able to stream to my TV, Tablets and Phones.
I'd also like to be able to upload photos, vids ect from my phone to my mobile.

The router I currently have is the Asus RT AC68U and I have Sky Fiber pro, PC up stairs is connected with homeplugs to the router downstairs. I'd like the NAS drive upstairs any idea how I'd manage that? without having to run a massive cable if possible.

Any help would be great.

Thank you

Can't go wrong With Synology. Diskstation DS415 Play

Do you need to include the storage within the £400 budget?

NAS doesn't need to be near your computer, could be just plugged into your router? Or just buy a small switch for less than £30 to feed any devices upstairs.

Yeah I'd like the NAS drives to be included in that budget..
What's the best drives everyone seems to go for?

Well I've got the 214play so only 2 bays with a pair of WD Red 2TB drives, all bought for less than £400. Works great for me.

Perfect but its over budget. Synology stuff just works. I have a genuine synology and an expenology on a N54L and i have to say transfer performance on the N54L destroys the genuine Synology if your happy to go that way.

Is that the HP microserver? And what's the expenology software like compared to the synology?

Cheers

Its exactly the same software, it is the actual same software not a copy you actually download the dsm from synology. And yes its the HP microserver. (You can run the synology software on pretty much anything. Gogle it there is a whole forum for it. Infact there is a thread under the servers section dedicated to the software on the N54L

well it works exactly the same as a synology unit (exactly the same) you will need to buy a N54L if thats what box you want to use and a bunch of drives. Nothing more to it. Look on the link i have given you earlier all the info you will need. its Very simple to do however if you have no experience with any form of installing an OS or configuring a router just buy a synology box and be done.

I just putting a hp Server together now with Synology DSM software.

Server was 169 with 55 cashback from HP and two 2tb western digital Red NAS drives

Server = 113.00
Hard Drives = 59.99 each on offer

Total 233.00

then takes no more than 20 mins to install the Synology DSM software.

There is a massive thread in the servers forum with info

There is a difference between hinting a product that OcUK don't sell is available elsewhere at X price, and blatantly advising that someone should buy a product that OcUK do sell elsewhere because it is X amount cheaper though.

The site you mentioned can be linked to and talked about, but clearly not for technology items that are in direct competition with OcUK's product line.

At times the rules can be bent a little, not if it's a blatent.. "You can buy it cheaper from X.."

OP, consider the DS414J

agree if your unsure a 414j is a good bet. I have had a few over the years and i even have a 108j (years and years old) that just does a little bit of backup of a backup. They have never let me down.
