Faulty Evga Titan X?

Hi, having an issue with my Evga Titan SC X, in both the bios and GPU-Z it shows as only running at PCI-E 3.0 x1 :confused::(

It downclocks on desktop and GPU-Z states its running at x1 1.1, when I try the render test or a game it goes to PCI-E 3.0 x1. Tried setting Gen 3 in bios that made no difference.

Spec is;

i7 5280k,
Evga X99 Classified (latest bios),
Evga Titan SC X (tried last two Nvidia drivers),
Samsung 850 pro (with a brand new Windows 8.1 install),
Corsair AX1200i.

I only changed to this setup yesterday, had been running an i7 4770k in an Asus Maximus VI Extreme fine, until last month when I turned PC on and I couldn't get anything on the display. Found the Titan X had stopped working in the top PCI-E slot, moved it down the board and it worked fine but at a maximum of PCI-E 3.0 x4. Thought the board was dying so decided to use it as an excuse to change, but is it my card at fault?

Any ideas?

Have you asked in EVGA forums?
I remember my days with EVGA x79 FTW. I will never again buy motherboard with EVGA name on it.
Your GPU is not faulty, there must be a motherboard or BIOS fault. simple as that ;)

Just asked on Evga forums. Hopefully somebody has an answer.

I am right in thinking that when stressed my GPU should run at 3.0 x16 aren't I?

Yes.
And as Quartz said, try different slots ;)
ASUS motherboards for example tell you in bios if you are putting the cards in optimal slots ;)

P.S. for the fun of it, how is performance of titan x on x1 speeds? :D

OK, just moved the Titan X from the 1st slot to the 4th slot on my EVGA Classified mobo and it shows as running 3.0 x4 in bios and GPUZ :confused: :mad: :(

are you sure you haven't set something in BIOS? For myself current BIOSes are quite confusing with plenty of settings similarly named. Worst of all that BIOS coders don't explain all of the sections in bios :(

I honestly have no idea, haven't messed about with bios much. I updated to the latest bios, loaded the defaults & set my boot order. The PCI-E speed is in the bios and I've had it at both auto and Gen 3 with no difference in result.

I've tried re-seating the cpu and checking the socket for any bent pins that may be causing an issue but couldn't see anything. Nothing is overclocked. I'm stumped :confused:

An update;

Contacted EVGA technical support and they agreed that the card was likely at fault and have allowed an RMA. Just need to send the card back to Germany now.

This can also be cause by bent pins on the CPU socket. Just mentioning in case you get a replacement and the same happens.

Hi, somebody on Evga forum said the same. I did check but couldn't see anything wrong although my eyes aren't the best :D

The same card has exhibited the same symptoms on two different PC's so I'm hoping it is the card, especially as it's going to cost around £40 to send back to Germany. Bought a GTX 780 off MM so will see if this runs OK.

Cheers for the heads up anyway, didn't know this could be the cause till someone posted it on Evga forum.

Sods law, I've had Evga Hybrid cooler on preorder for a while and I've just got a dispatched email from supplier, so I'll have cooler but no Titan.

The GTX 780 I bought from the MM arrived today, swapped the Titan X for the 780 and booted to bios and it was showing PCI-E 3.0 x16. In windows GPU-Z shows the same, so its definitely my Titan X causing the problem, hopefully Evga find the same fault.

No matter if we find an error or not, if you send a card for RMA it will always get replaced! To make sure you will not suffer from the same error again..

:) its a wired issue if just the bus speeds are not posted correctly... hope the replacement will just work fine! We do post updates about the RMA in your account at SUPPORT - OPEN RMAs.
