The EU Migrant Crisis

Sure the syrian people fleeing didn't ask for civil war but in a lot ways they are just as responsible for the way their country turned out. Iraq and libya, fine blame the US and UK for destabilising that country, but syria, they brought on their own destruction and destroyed their own country.

Iraq and afghanistan has taken in many 100ks of refugges from syria. The majority of the north african's migrants are not even coming from libya either. They are coming from all over, in countries that are not even at war.

I think there is probably about 100 million or more people in the world that would move to the UK today if they had the opportunity. I know when i was in middle east all the thai and other migrants that worked for my dad or working at restaurants would tell me how they would like to move to london.

It is not the UK responsibility to look after everyone in the world. Being born in to a rubbish country should not give someone the right to move anywhere they want. They should work on making their own country better instead.

Doesn't mean we shouldnt try though.

Just washing your hands of a problem such as this is inhuman.

I went to Calais last week with a boot load of water, dried food, blankets and camping stoves. It didn't solve the problem permantly but it helped those it could.

You do know they're in France at the moment and could apply for asylum there, right?

No they can't as France won't accept their applications.

I spoke to several refugees over there and every time they walk in to Calais to the offices (if they're even open), they just get rounded up, shoved on a minibus and dropped off back at the jungle.

Maybe that's because they're economic immigrants and not genuine asylum seekers. It's analagous to me wanting to move to America for a better paid job, knowing I'd be turned down, so going and living on the US-Canadian border in hopes of breaking in.

All refuges and not migrants? Did you ask them why they wanted to come here?

Where would all the Brits live if we let them in as you can bet the illegals will be give a place to live.

Again this.

I'm afraid Amiga Fan has an airy fairy view of the world where we can all hold hands, help each other and live in a utopian society.

The real world just doesn't work like that.

That sounds a bit far fetched even for those sneaky beggars (the French). The number of charities and bleeding hearts in Calais right now you'd think someone would have witnessed this. One thing the boat people are exceptionally good at is weaving a sob story.

Syrians wanted a civil war and to fight against their government and the wishes of some of their people, as assad had a big following even post arab spring. One of the reasons why the civil war has been so brutal is that there is significant support for assad. Why should then the rest of the world help people who seek to destroy their own country with violence? They should have stuck to diplomatic reforms and encouraged assad to become more relaxed, instead they protested and called for him to be killed. What will happen if he is killed and all his line as well? A new crazy (probably muslim) dictator will get in and be no better/even worse and the country will be in ruins. I have little sympathy for the syrians as a result.

Yes, they want to come here because they think there are more jobs, we're nice people, we have reliable infrastructure, we have a world class health service and we look after people that can't look after themselves.

I did tell them it's not a rosy as they think.

I asked what the first thing was that they wanted to do when they got here - they all said "get a job"
